With all of the hate going around this sub with JD, I just wanted to remind everyone who he is

It’s definitely disappointing to see JD struggle so early, but it’s not surprising given his skill sets that this video clearly points out.

Davis had to work himself into the top prospect status by hitting tough jumpers, taking over an offense devoid of scoring threats and elevating his team while playing above average defense and being an elite rebounder. Most importantly, he had to work hard and prove himself to everyone else after being just an average bench guard in his first season.

At Wisconsin, Johnny was forced to score 20 ppg because his team had no other options. It’s not all that surprising that he hasn’t been able to contribute yet seeing as he is a rhythm scorer and most of his best attributes are complimentary on a team where he is not asked to be the primary scoring threat. He isn’t going to blow by you and throw down an insane dunk, but has shown the ability to be a lockdown defender on elite prospects like Ivey, hit hard shots, elevate his teammates, be clutch and do the little things right like hustle, rebound, steal, and block.

Overall, I’m not worried about Davis’ long term future right now. I think he needs to learn the pace of the NBA and listen to the vets. We are in a position where he can take the redshirt year and learn. I think he will at least be a complimentary contributor at some point later this year and I’m still confident he can develop into an above average 2 way player.

I honestly don’t care what his college highlight tape shows, the pessimism is warranted. There literally hasn’t been one positive from his game since he suited up in SL. I’d love nothing more to be wrong about what he’ll turn out to be as a pro, but he looks horrendous. Not his fault he went 10th…this is on Tommy.

  2. Imo drafted at 10th is pretty much 50/50 to be a bust. Do we try and draw similarities with Poole bad rookie season for fans to try and wish him success?
Anyway, cant wait for a season to start. Only those games and those performances matter.
