ClipperVision – Ballmer’s Philosophy

Taken from the Variety article:

“This is this is our life. We present basketball games to people. If we don’t get it right the first time, guess what you do? You do it again. And you do it again, and you get better and you get better,” he said. “A month? A year? Not enough time. Five years, 10 years, we’ll have it right. **There’s some stuff at Microsoft, frankly, that took us more than 10 years to get right. And it’s paying a whole lot of bills for a whole lot of shareholders right now.** So patience is a virtue as long as you’re willing to hustle your butt off.”

Reassuring to know that ClipperVision is not a one-off thing. Also great to know Steve Ballmer is looking at this as a multi-year project, and not just a one and done deal.

I signed up the moment I saw it. It’s perfect for me. The NBA needs to wrangle broadcast rights away from the RSNs and come up with a similar method of distribution. The biggest thing is the awareness that younger people are moving away from traditional broadcast cable and trying to solve around that.

What I would hope they can do too is come up with some off season programming too. I think the Raptors have a training camp show or something like that.

I love that Steve and the Clippers are at the forefront of this kind of stuff. Top tier front office, ownership, coaching, with a new stadium, all in sunny southern California.

I think this replaces Clippers CourtVision which was free but limited in who had access. While I think $199 is a bit steep, the 50% discount this year is a nice enticement.

I used Clippers CourtVision the past 2 years and if Clipper Vision offers the same experience CourtVision did I’ll be a happy fan. I set up my Bally’s account online, logged into the NBA app on my Roku and will download the Bally’s app once I stop working today.
