[Bontemps] And then in the same statement, [Silver] says, “I’m going to meet with him in the next week.” Are you kidding me? In the next week? It’s a 35 minute drive from Olympic Tower to Sunset Park where the Nets practice, which was happening while the statement was being put out

There’s a lot to get upset with in the nba this week, but getting mad at silver for *this* is just pedantic lol

We’re not in a state of emergency because a player is saying ignorant shit. He shouldn’t drop everything to meet with him

  2. David Stern would have suspended Kyrie for 50 games within a day of the incident.

  3. People can ever be pleased lol. You want the commish to drop his entire schedule just to meet with a clown like Kyrie who’s already suspended without pay?

  4. If Irving didn’t get to his senses until now, he sure need at least one week to do so. It wouldn’t be sensible to talk to him before that anyway.

  5. Dutchmaster617

This is just how rich people do things.

Working in IT and a super critical update needs done for security and it takes months because executives gotta do meetings and stroke their chin.

  6. UrbanJatt

Bintemps is a dumbass. Silver is the ceo and has to lookover probably so many things everyday. He should happy that there’s a meeting even scheduled.

  7. cremaster_shake

Silver undoubtedly gave instructions to the Nets to quiet this shit down. Then, if most of a week passed after they shut Kyrie up, Silver could meet with him, offer an ultimatum or two, and escape without getting sucked into the drama. And he’d look like the professional head of a bunch of professionals.

But the Nets couldn’t make Kyrie tamp it down, so they had to suspend him, and Silver is mad at them. Guaranteed.

  8. reallyfunnyandcool

remember Silver is unemployed and has a lot of free time, nothing scheduled ever

  9. Background-Sir5324

I mean he’s the nba commissioner. He probs has a lot more important stuff on his schedule than Kyrie Irving.

This reaction is what I’m starting to find distasteful about these situations. (I’m not going to use cancel culture because you should be held accountable for what you say). But what exactly is the end goal of all the moralizing because it feels like it’s just to extract some endless amount of contrition and moral superiority.

  11. NBAWhoCares

Why is Spotify such unbelievable fucking garbage? Anyone else getting a blank page when clicking the link?

  12. ParathaOmelette

Adam silver is extremely weak to not suspend him in the beginning

  13. moneedelray

Holy shit do people even know what they’re crying about now

  14. scott_free80

Why didn’t Sliver tar and feather him live on tv? I have barrels of the stuff in my trunk right now!

  15. felarans0mekuti

Bontemps sounds like beaker when talks and says nothing of substance

  16. Marchidus

We are getting mad at everyone for a documentary that has been being sold at Amazon for a while. Chill ffs.

  17. Shauerkraut

Silver is a legitimately garbage commissioner. For years now he’s allowed the league to devolve into a clown show

  18. gustriandos

I think it’s a little ridiculous that Kyrie even gets a special little sit down to apologize and whatever but being mad at the timing is a little much lol. I’m not even sure what this meeting could possibly do. People need to stop giving Kyrie the benefit of the doubt and just decide how they want to deal with him.

  19. This tweet and the Udoka article blaming the Celtics for allowing the Nets to interview him are what’s wrong with today’s culture, alongside Kyrie. No one thinks about the nuanced picture, they take what they perceive to be the quickest, highest moral action and use it to virtue signal how great they would’ve done in this situation.

  20. SlothDogBeaver

This is really overblown. “In the next week” literally means within the next week — it could be later today, it could be tomorrow, it could be in two days. Kyrie is not that important to the league at this point. Let him have some time to think about what he’s done to his future earning power.

  21. 35 minutes and under without traffic. When Kyrie was at the Nets training facility it was def an hour+

  22. MileHighCam

We’re upset at silver instead of kyrie now?

  23. MightBeASithLord

lol, yeah that’s Kyrie’s problem, Silver isn’t getting to him “fast enough”

  24. PointGuardJew

What is the Oxford dictionary joke with kyrie about? I missed it lol

  25. darylraspberry

Saw an article can’t remember where with an interesting parallel with goodell and how silver likes to lead from behind if that makes sense. pressure other people to do the right thing first, and he can always escalate if need be. Goodell for instance just somewhat randomly levies punishment. By waiting for kyrie to continue to make a mess, silver and the nets basically have more evidence/info on their side to say nah he’s too far gone let’s suspend. Whereas if they suspend for a tweet, while it spreads hateful stuff, I think even more people would be like you can’t suspend for that. I don’t think the nba is a clown show for waiting a week before the nets coming down with some actually very harsh words/punishment. Kyrie is a clown, but that’s on him

  26. kozy8805

Damn people just want instant news and instant gratification. Now, Silver now! I need to write about it! How dare you not do what I say!

  27. Rudowood

I mean the NBA has a union which Kyrie is a VP so Silver just popping in for a quick chat since he is in the neighborhood is unlikely.

  28. Cartoonrabbit

ESPN is the only organization that came out of this looking food, Bontemps,Windhorst,Friedel, all been on point and refused to let Kyrie and the Nets off the hook

  29. qpwoeor1235

Windhorst blaming the Jew. Time is a circle

  30. It’s like when I need to give a simple response to a text and I don’t, but then when asked why I just say I was busy as if I didn’t have 5 seconds of spare time even though I did.

  31. BengalFan85

Pretty sure an NBA Commish has a very busy schedule and finding time isn’t easy. This is a dumb take.

  32. North_Hornet1024

This is ridiculous. Seems like many reporters are vying to extract whatever remaining outraged takes there may be out of this situation. This and the one chastising the Celtics for allowing Udoka to interview with other teams take the cake. I don’t think we’re at the point yet where Silver should be criticized for inaction.

  33. ghost18867

Bomtemps is an idiot. Does he think the commissioner of the NBA sits at his house all day and plays video games? The man obviously has other shit to do.

  34. talkinpractice

I think it’s fair to take the time to do it right.

Kyrie’s already suspended, it’s not like he’s actively involved in the NBA right now.

  35. Comfortable_Buddy946

I mean adam silver is Jewish, so if he doesn’t really wanna deal with it I get it 🤷‍♂️

  36. PM_ME_HAIRLESS_CATS

You’re right, Adam totally not stopping his day to crash the H&H that Kyrie is at, and smack the pumpernickel bagel out of his hands for his transgressions is totally called for and rational in response.

Has it ever dawned on anyone that Adam has shit to do daily in regards to the league, that isn’t dealing with a terminal baby like Kyrie? They’re going to meet next week, it’ll make for good TV, so just relax.
