This game made no sense – 4 mistakes, 3 take ways, and 1 BOLD prediction

The Toronto Raptors lose Pascal Siakam and attempt a late comeback against Luka Doncic and the Mavericks behind Scottie Barnes, OG Anunoby and Chris Boucher. Next up Chicago Bulls, but first, let’s look at this loss.

In this breakdown, we look at 4 critical errors in the last 4 minutes which cost the Toronto Raptors as they attempted to mount a 19 point comeback against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.

Luka Doncic became the first player since Wilt Chamberlain (nearly 60 years ago) to score 30+ in 7 straight games, and this makes it 8. He didn’t even need 16 shots to get his 35 points, as the Raptors threw everything but the kitchen sink at him.

After a massive scoring drought in the third quarter, which ended with Pascal Siakam falling down and suffering a scary groin injury, the Raptors mounted an improbably comeback behind Chris Boucher’s hustle, OG Anunoby’s 2-way impact (27 points on 21 shots), Otto Porter Jr’s spacing, Precious Achiuwa’s relentless effort, AND what has become a revelation over the past 3 games; point God Scottie Barnes who notched a triple double despite not scoring in the first half and entering the fourth quarter on the verge of having the worst game of his life.

  1. In the sphere of Youtube Raptor YouTube commentators I rate your insightful, no BS videos as the best. There is far too much surface level reactionary content out there. You are establishing a quality level that is first class. It'll be interesting to see how some of your predictions bare out throughout this season. I'm so glad you are repeating what Masai said about this season's goals being an evaluation of what the group has and not flying off with the click bait, must do trades, to make the Raptors a contender immediately. A trade like that isn't likely out there unless there is a significant gamble with the franchises future.

Will things likely need to change with so many key contracts coming up, in a word YES but as the FO tends to do, be patient.

  2. offensively, gary trent is either on fire or stone cold….drives you crazy

  3. Great video,

Amazing 👏 how Scotty fits into the " unconventional " point guard role….

…however the biggest mistake 😕 was on the coach!

In the first two quarters he was "tinkering around" with some crazy "lines"… in such a close game of such importance it was not the right… timing.

… yes missing Siakam will be sadly missed

…however the opportunities for younger players to make it to the big stage is endless… for this time of the season…with all their mistakes, and the trust from the coach 🙏

  4. The og foul was bonehead with Dallas in the bonus, and they let og get a 2 when we needed a 3 ok, but ur right foul and hope 1/2 to get that chance without the 3 they needed

  5. Siakam currently 14th in pts, 19th in Rebounds, not in Top 50 in blocks, but 8th in Assists, so if he can up his pts per game by 5, and grab a couple of more boards a game, his march into the Top 10 becomes reality. So far so good.

OG is number 1 in the NBA in steals by a massive .7 per game, and averaging 16.3pts. Not hearing much from the "Got to trade OG" he is nothing fanboys anymore, hmmm.

  6. Just a few comments for things expressed in the video. Shai would fit the Raptors for both the short and long term, and his height is good. KD would fit the Raptors only in the short term, and his height is a match. It should be obvious who the Raptors would go after in a trade. Yes, missing Fred and Pascal will hurt the wins now…but the experience for Precious, OG, Gary, Barnes, Koloko etc., can be money in the bank. It's early in the season, and when NN likes to experiment, so I think everything will be fine. Otto will mean so much to this rotation, but I think Thad will get fewer minutes if everyone is healthy. Boucher is the player who excels off the bench but to little fame. All great teams need guys like him. OG looks so dominant…he's a football player intercepting passes and uses power to score in the paint. For the most part, Gary has been pretty good as a go-to shooter, and off-shooting nights will happen. Can he help the team in other areas consistently? I really like this team…there is a real vibe about them. Almost like they are primed to take it to another level. I think they will be ready for a game-changing trade when they reach that next level.

  7. Boucher has turned into a very underrated bench piece. His confidence/poise is looking better than ever and it's reflecting in his play.

  8. I love the 🦖are fist and 🐴 with teams with the most international players in NBA.
    Luka🪄 is on🔥MVP 👑of the game.📈

  9. Im just gonna say that I have rarely seen Dowtin vs good competition with primary bench unit. He needs a chance same as flynn because backup small pg should be a filled role on this team

  10. Sadly, I wasn't able to watch the game. After looking up the stats and watching the highlights, it confirms my long-running theory that as Gary Trent Junior goes, so the Raptors go. I wish they would figure out a way to win when Gary's shooting is cold. Seems like they came awfully close with that 4th quarter comeback. Luka truly is generational. Can't believe he was still sitting there at 6th in my fantasy league. I scooped him up faster than a mongoose.

  11. Boucher is the quintessential French Quebecois. Tough as nails and impossible to intimidate.

  12. @pensare basketball its a tough break with siakam going down with groin pull, thats if ya want to be safe 4-8 weeks. in terms of SGA, he is not available for trade till june 29 of 2023. the reason why the raptors lost is because to beat good teams, all the starters have to be on. if ya looked at the game scottie with ankle was not even on the score sheet till 4th. And Gary was cold. Siakam going down put the nail in the coffin as it took away their only player that really attacked the basket. So you saw that stretch where raptors were not scoring just trying to hit 3's and not going down.

i dont know if the nets will trade KD, but i dont think the asking price will go down. end of the day its still gonna cost the raptors gary and og and khem as a filler and likely 2 first round picks at a minimum.

they may be better off trying to get some bench depth in clarkson and maybe vanderbilt for rebounds from jazz.

i would ship juancho hernangomez out asap and try to sign dj wilson. he seemed to fit better with raptors last year.

  13. None of us wanted it to happen this way (injury) but indeed exciting to see Scottie thrust into the initiator role. Hope he’ll sponge up the reps physically and on film. Praying youth will quick heal them ankles🤞

  14. It's early in the season but I've seen enough to hand the keys to Scottie and the other young guys
It's time to start working on the big trade for a star. With 1 more top player this team is a real contender. Basically trade anyone but Scottie.

  15. We should trade for either these two centers

    1. Myles Turner
Elite shot blocker, solid 3 point shooter who can spread the floor and be a mentor to Koloko

    2. Isaiah Hartenstein
Great shot blocker, high basketball iq, good finisher, athletic, and a decent shooter

  16. Great comments insights as always, when Scottie is handling the ball, sometimes I feel Lowry is back. Like they say, feed the dogs and they'll guard the yard. Most players are better with Scottie on court, hope VV will relinquish his ball handling more to Scott, I see this as an unstoppable force.
Question Rob, Koloko committing lots of touch tat fouls, are those rookie mistakes or referees not being fair to Koloko, I could see/know it too well but I have a feeling that isn't very fair to Koloko

  17. I have tons of trouble respecting players like luka. He’s getting close to a tier of harden and embiid. His stats are bloated by bogus calls. Flopping and faking are something he practices in the gym. Probably learned it from the soccer players being a euro. I just hate his game. He’s so slow and pathetic it actually makes me mad when people don’t lock him down. He’s a big shot maker. I’ll give him that. Anyways if he winds up never winning a championship… I won’t complain.

  18. What to do with scottie, do you keep him playing injured in the state of our team injuries or do you gamble and hope for quick recovery from both fred and pascal for him to take time to heal??

  19. Hands down, the best Raptors analyst in YT today.
I hope you make this kind of analysis a staple.

  20. I’m a Mavs fan, but I almost wish there was a way to combine both our teams lol, bc this Raps team would be the perfect squad for Luka. Bunch of big, defensive wing talent paired with Luka’s offensive half-court mastery would be beautiful basketball

  21. Pascal Siakam is the reason I fall in love watching the Raptors and basketball again. Shout out to Pascal, to his leadership, to his winning mentality. There is a difference between a superstar and a winner. Pascal is a winner.
