Guys clearly never watched Eurobasket Championships. Lauri was 2nd best scorer in that tournament after Giannis Antetokounmpo.
As a Utah Jazz fan for the past 35 years let me account the fact that we most certainly wish to keep winning. Throwing an entire season away for a 1/6 chance at yet another very tall Frenchman– is f**** retarded. Yes I've seen him play, but trust the process is cringe. I thought we already knew that.
When you really dig into the Utah roster they are pretty deep. I mean they're deeper than the Pistons I'll tell you that much. I'd rather have Colin Sexton as a 6th man than Killian Hayes. If you wanna look at why the Pistons are struggling, their bench just doesn't exist. They have no goto scorer, no true playmaker in that 2nd unit. Killian as the lead PG off the bench is just not getting it done. Corey Joseph is hardly any better either. Pistons just need better production off the bench otherwise things will continue to look bad. Killian should not be this bad offensively in year 3, no other way to say it. I hope Alec Burke will boost the bench when he gets back. Otherwise, I think Troy Weaver will have to make moves and upgrades ASAP. I don't want the season to go to waste this early when we were all so exited coming into this season.
Being the only NBA player in Team Finland Lauri Markkanen still scored 43 pts in a game against Croatia (which has 3 NBA players, including Bogdanovic) in EuroBasket 2022 which ties with Dirk Nowitzki record. The difference to Bulls system was Team Finland let Markkanen do whatever he wants on court and also his usage was probably double compared to Bulls' times.
Jazz is similar to Team Finland in a way he has been given more roles to utilize his skills and also there are no ballhogs (this season), instead all seem to play unselfishly. Difference to Team Finland compared to Jazz is Markkanen's usage is only at 24% and if usage was at Doncic level (39%), his PPG would be closer to 30 than 20 (I mean… in 7 EuroBasket games he did score more than Doncic). But high usage of any player has not been the Jazz way this season.
In general, Jazz is similar to Team Spain who do not have superstars, instead they have awesome coach and as team they are tough af. Spain did win EuroBasket 2022 – and also WorldCup 2019. Team Spain coach did mention it is almost impossible to guard Markkanen 1 vs 1, so they guarded him at times with 2-3 players (which was possible because Finland had only one star player)
