It’s clear to me that the Wolves have some major adjustments to make. They got exactly what they hoped for on defense, at least with Gobert on the floor. But they have no idea whatsoever how to play offense with him on the floor.

The Jazz had the best offense in the NBA with Gobert, and outside of their disastrous last season they got *better* on offense with him on the floor.

It’s unclear what adjustments can be made without making changes to the roster, but it seems evident that just saying “DLo is gonna feast in the PNR with Rudy” isn’t going to make it so.

His defense and kanter’s offense would be the greatest big man of all time. Vice versa would be a McDonald’s employee

  2. Casuals will continue to just blame Gobert. But this show personnel matters so much. If DLo could be anything like 2019 Conley the Wolves would be at the top of the conference. He’s been horrible.

Trade D’Angelo Russell for Mike Conley. Problem solved.

I think a lot of people seem to forget that. All I hear is “it’s Rudy’s fault, he clogs the paint” and such when past seasons have shown us clearly that you can have at least a good offense with him during the regular season.

It will take a lot time to adjust. Snyder’s system was really beautiful to watch at times, but Russel is probably not the right playmaker for that.

Yeah, chemistry takes time. It’s not going to work overnight. Still very early but the Timberwolves have been one of the very disappointing teams so far. DLo has been a slow starter before but as a DLo fan, it sucks seeing the kid struggling this much. He has always been a streaky player so he’s going to pick it up and get hot. It’s a roller coaster ride just rooting for the kid. 🧐🧐🧐😡😡😡🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Baguette givith and baguette taketh away,

Bottom line is during crunchtime Rudy hurts you more than he helps.

Literally every single opponent coach knows this and exploits it mercilessly

Just put him in for defensive possessions and sub him out when you’re on offense.

If McDaniels and Russell could take and make more 3s at a higher clip this solves a lot of the spacing problems. Gobert is still one of the best screen setters in the league, their back court just has to take better advantage of their off the dribble atempts

  9. Why is every post about Gobert and not about the 30mil a year guard with a 48ts% and no defense or playmaking?

Like CJ is shooting terribly to start the season but at least he’s playmaking and trying on defense and generally not sinking things.

At this point just put him in the corner so I don’t have to keep watching the god awful pick and rolls with him and Dlo.
I bet watching him with a good pnr guard would be fun.

  11. If NBA introduces ‘hockey-subs’ Wolves are champs!

  12. > it seems evident that just saying “DLo is gonna feast in the PNR with Rudy” isn’t going to make it so.

Well, you’re clearly just not saying it enough.

Also yeah I got that one super wrong lol.

If they can figure it out … stonks!

  14. The Wolves are literally Aegislash right now.

D-Lo is a *great* pick and roll passer (one of the best other than the usual suspects like Jokic or Trae or CP3 etc.). The problem is that he’s such a streaky shooter and poor finisher that there are a lot of nights where his options become

    a) shoot a long jumper while ice cold

    b) attack the rim knowing he can’t finish or draw fouls efficiently

    c) squeeze in a pass that everyone is expecting

The Wolves are shooting 27.8% on threes with Gobert on and 37.1% on threes with Gobert off. That seems very noisy and unsustainable.

And it’s not just clogging the paint with Gobert and Towns both on. They’re shooting 22% on threes with Gobert on and Towns off.

I tried to tell the Wolves fans to chill and wait after the season opener when they were taking their victory laps after Gobert ate us up while playing us when we lack a true center/rim protector with Chet injured.

The wildest part of the trade, for me, was how it turned all of the potential future timelines for personnel around Edward’s for the next 5 years into just one. That was the worst aspect of the Westbrook trade too, that there really was no off ramp if it didn’t work strategically. We didn’t know if KAT and him could work together in the modern NBA and it really might not.

Mike Conley you are a Minnesota Timberwolf
