Portland Trail Blazers roll over Pelicans in New Orleans: Is This The Best Team in The West?!

No Damian Lillard, No Jusuf Nurkic, No Problem. The Portland Trail Blazers ride Jerami Grant’s 27 points to an unlikely and impressive 106-95 win over the Pelicans in New Orleans on Thursday.

10:39 – There was so much to love about this game beyond Grant’s big night and highlight dunk against Zion Williamson. Anfernee Simons was aggressive going to the rim, Nassir Little had a big night off the bench, and Chauncey Billups once again pressed all the right buttons.

24:21 – So seriously, is this the best team in the west right now? They’re certainly in the conversation. Let’s talk about it.

  1. Good show Mike!
Blazer fan here since 1977 and recently transplanted to Florida so enjoy having your vids and streams to stay connected with Rip City. I was joking with my Fam when I moved that wouldn't it be ironic if the Blazers went and won a chip as the Cinderella team no one expected this year!❤🖤🤍

  2. Please Stop playing Shania Twain!!! I like your podcast, but it's annoying as hell bro.. Doesn't even make sense

  3. They have been very good at closing out games. Feels lucky because we’ve got a bunch of buzzer beaters, but I think it speaks to how well the team and coaching staff is at decision making down the stretch.

  4. The Pels were the problem w/ zero defense and not using JV to dominate the small Blazers lineup, JV should have had 25-15

  5. I think Dame wants to be a coach when he retires and that he really likes Chauncey. Youth are highly impressionable and all their vets are win guys who don't chase the spotlight (Hart, Grant namely) . I think the core of this team's chemistry is the Dame/Chauncey relationship. For better or worse these young ones are all following Dame/Chauncey's way of thinking about team and basketball.
As a fan I think it's real. I think Chauncey is the real deal. The things that Lillard needs to learn i think he can and will learn from Chauncey and their staff. If we are lucky we are looking at the start of a career of a coaching great. Chauncey is a humble minded person who, inspite of how well he has done, will only get even better as a coach over time.
I am slightly worried about an ownership change and any major shake-up in the front office that would not mesh well with Chauncey and his staff. Most great coaches are very opinionated about the players they have on their teams and who they do and do not want on their team. All the great coaches have stories about wanting certain players, not wanting certain players etc.
Let's all cross our fingers for a good buyer at some point that will keep our front office intact/improve it only in ways that mesh with the current coach. I think if we lose Chauncey we lose Lillard as well and these youth probably won't do as well as a group under some new system with some new coach and no Dame and Chauncey to guide them as they've done so well so far.
