Jacked Ramsays After Dark: Easy-Peasy in the Big Easy

Join hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague for another Jacked Ramsays After Dark following another road win for the Blazers – this time taking down Zion Williamson, CJ McCollum, Brandon Ingram and the new Orleans Pelicans, 106-95 in game 5 of a 6 game road trip.

The Blazers went into the game with Damian Lillard, Jusuf Nurkic, Shaedon Sharpe and Keon Johnson all sitting out due to various injuries and yet somehow, Portland looked like the better team for the majority of the game. So much so, that Portland was able to close the 4th quarter with ease.

Anfernee Simons outplayed his former running mate in McCollum and Jerami Grant outgunned Ingram as the top SlenderMan on the floor. With the win, the Blazers improve to an NBA best 6-1 on the road and 9-3 overall – good enough in the Western Conference. The Blazers finish up their 6 game trip Saturday, in Dallas against Luka Doncic and the Mavericks.

  1. ngl the take on our zone defense is crazy. the zone has sucked all szn (wasn’t able to watch tn but i assumed it worked well), one game doesn’t change everything. all szn it has felt like our defense has been top tier in man and j atrocious in zone. we allow wayyy too many open looks from three. the whole team j feels like a liability in zone.

  2. I know you said you don't care but thank you for your service Danny! And thanks for providing the best blazers content 👌

  3. Enjoying the show, but PLS balance the volume levels between the 2 mics. Painful. I turn it up to listen to Danny & rush to turn it down when Brandon speaks. Brandon's mic is very close to his mouth; Danny's is less close. Enjoyed the commentary. Thank you.

  4. Brandon finally said it. And our local media and national media has missed that point all offseason. THE LEADERSHIP OF DAME. DAME IS THE BEST LEADER IN THE LEAGUE. THATS WHY IM NIT SUPRISED BY WHAT THIS TEAM HAS DONE THUS FAR.

  5. The roster around Dame and Nurk is definitely more talented.
Almost to the man, every guy can run faster and jump higher than their prior counterparts

  6. Stand ovation too Danny, forget them 25 games. My blazers are good. LETS GOOO

  7. I think Walker has more upside and is more talented than Watford. If they want to give Walker more minutes, they would have to play Winslow and Watford less. I still think the Blazers should sign Devontae Cacok. If they want to free up roster space, they can always trade Watford or Walker for draft picks, and still sign Cacok.

  8. Its smart to rest Dame more.

I don't think we've ever really seen him in peak shape or condition after he's gone through a whole season. He's turned in some awesome play-off performances in his career and though he won't admit it publicly sometimes he had to be running on fumes, battered and bruised. What's he gonna look like if he's at least somewhere close to fresh? That could be amazing.

And that's not even the best benefit of resting him.

The Blazers are really deep now. Talent level of the reserves is so high. The problem for Chauncey is when does he get the chance to run them without messing up starter's minutes? That's not a good idea but resting guys or taking special care with injuries is good and the fact the reserves are so good it turns a negative into a positive because guys are getting minutes and a chance to perform and they are performing well and winning games.

And those experiences feel good now for them, for us watching, for the organization, but what's real good is this all gonna pay off down the road in play-offs. These reserves will be coming in games confident and playing well because they been getting chances all year long.

So yeah, Dame, Anfernee, Jerami… going great tonight… but Chauncy being able to stick Jabari Walker in for five or six minutes in a play-off game and getting good results, like they've gotten from him in the few games he's played. That kind of situation (and even more so with other reserves) leading to the actual winning of the play-off game might end up being more important than what the stars are gonna do, cause you know they're gonna ball, but having those reserves coming in and blitzing their opponent's second team is gonna be major. Just major.

Only other thing to say is… if the Blazers go with 10 turnovers or less you're gonna see a lot of games like this and they're just gonna squeeze the life out of a lot of opponents in one half or the other.
Doing so many things well, defense, rebounding, assists, shooting, etc,… they'll do what they did tonight with the Pels which was to basically just squeeze the life out of them over the second half.

Not so dramatic like maybe what past Warrior teams have done when behind, which was just blitz teams and overwhelm them into submission with a barrage of threes, the Blazers are always so dramatic, though they can do that too sometimes, but mostly they've just been slowly tightening the screws on their opponents until, at some point, the poor pelican just can't get out of they box. Not so dramatic but intimidating. The Blazers did it tonight with a second unit. They were getting a shot every time down and doing that with good defense your opponent just can't catch up.

And on this path the second unit (and third!) will be getting better all the time.

You guys are right about having 12 guys that can go and getting them enough (or any?) minutes is a problem. Solving it makes having those 12 guys an asset instead of a problem.

Hoping Chauncey and management can keep that a priority a major coaching goal. To my mind it's paramount to go deep into the play-offs and win a championship…. yeah…. I said it…. 🙂😉

This pic of Dame, Ant & Shaedon on the plane the other night says it all to me. It's all mutually beneficial all the way around.

Dame: "Hang with me guys. I'll show you what I know and we'll all get a ring(s)".
Ant and Shaedon: "There's no better place for me to be to learn what I need to learn."

  9. Just crazy to be 9-3 and haven’t even had GP2 step on the floor once. Who’s ready to flip the crown this year!?! 😎

  10. Nailed it Brandon on the Dame belief stuff. He's inspiring.

    C'mon Danny, just say they're a 50win team. It's not too early!

  11. Grant is the second best player on the team, not Ant. Dude can drive, shoot, get to the line. He's rebounding a but, and plays great defense. It's Dame, Grant, then Ant most nights. Ant needs to get more consistent with his shooting too. 5-18 last night? Yuck.

  12. Where else can you tune in and get the appraisal of a "Red-Ass off"? This is the kind of information you just don't get on other shows. #DrewFTW

  13. I think one thing we are already seeing with this team, is that they are going to use this depth to consistently give all key players rest throughout the season, rather than try to get everyone their minutes each night.

I'm guessing that every night there's going to be a few guys who sit to "rest" so that there are always 9 guys expecting to play each night.
