Here’s the clip of the last shot. Any thoughts on what we should’ve done differently?

Wanna hear ppl’s thoughts/reactions to the last shot. Personally, I think this wasn’t the shot we should’ve gone for. Brunson and Randle both had mismatches we could’ve exploited.

Not gonna kill RJ tho cuz he did have a good game for the most part and kept us in it… but def think taking a contested set shot w/ little to no space was not a good decision in the moment.

Anyone else have any other takeaways?

He’s not good at set shots while being contested. Those are shots that superstar All Star players take. I give him props for having the guts to take that shot at all, but that’s not his specialty at all.

Not write up the play for the guy that shoots 28% from 3 would be a good start

Just can’t believe people are calling this an open shot.

Grayson Allen, the son of a bitch, played it right and held right at the line with his hands up right in RJ’s space and vision. He didn’t close out completely on him because, as Breen points out, the 3 wasn’t absolutely necessary.

It wasn’t an open look, it wasn’t a good shot. RJ had a good game, props to him for that, but this shot was some bozo, hero ball stuff

he only took this shot because Hawkeye hit that three and RJ couldn’t live with it. I admire the shot, sucks he didn’t hit.

  6. Randle switched with Brunson and had Holiday on him. I know he’s like their best defender but I like the matchup with Randle bully ball.

Brunson passed it to RJ to get it to Randle but RJ took the shot instead, not much else to say, just bad execution.

  7. Just a very bad shot. I don’t think I’ve seen RJ make a contested shot like this (at least not this season) so not the best time to try

He only took it because Grayson Allen hit a 3 on his head right before this and he wanted to be a hero. I’m proud of RJ for having the guts to try and take a shot like that but we should of drew up something better instead of settling for that.

Not sure this has been said yet, but he should have made the shot. Could have helped.

There’s quite a bit to unpack here with this play. First thing is that Thibs didn’t call a time out after the made 3 from Allen to regroup, get a good shot, and plan for the rest of the game. Instead, we get this lifeless play.

There isn’t much time on the clock and the team is down by 3. Not tied, not down 1, down 3. That’s very important to the context here. Brunson and Randle play a pretty lame two-man game that got switched and neither guy wanted to do anything.

RJ sees this and goes for the ball. Randle doesn’t get position on Holiday for a post up. He also doesn’t go potentially set a screen for RJ either. RJ jacks up the 3 because the team needs to shoot quickly to keep as much of the clock as possible. It took a rough bounce.

It wasn’t a good shot as they potentially could have gotten something better. But it wasn’t a bad shot in the slightest. I think anyone nitpicking RJ during this like 30 second span are just looking to be mad at something.

If you want to be mad at someone, it’s Thibs for how he coached that last minute as the team have everything they had against a potential title team.

He got the dagger hit in his face and made the selfish play trying to get it back instead of playing team ball.
