Atlanta Hawks All-NBA guard Trae Young and coach Nate McMillan had an exchange at Friday’s shootaround that led to Young choosing not to attend the team’s home win over Denver at State Farm Arena, sources with knowledge of the situation tell The Athletic. A 13-10 start to the Atlanta Hawks’ season has not come without drama, as league sources say the team is managing simmering issues between its head coach and star player. Those issues culminated in a telltale moment inside the Hawks’ practice facility on Friday.

Just get a new coach
Trade Trae. We're better without him. Trae is not a leader. Dejounte is slightly older and much more mature and stable. We have a 19 year old who would fit quite nicely in the backcourt next to Dejounte.
A great but entitled superstar got his first coach fired Nate sees he could be next if he doesn't reel in Trae and they're hovering around .500 mid season. Nate loves the way the ball doesn't stick with DJ in command. Trae can score but it seems he has a need to be the top scorer every night to the detriment of team ball. Mike D'antoni will be the next coach if it goes off the rails and the organization sides with Trae. U heard it here first.

Not much concerned yet. Key player and coach often butt heads. Trae is still growing and maturing. Nate is an old school coach. Things were bound to happen. Better to straighten this out now rather than later. Not a huge fan of Nate, but I think he approaches the team better than Lloyd Pierce did. I can see how Trae is a bit frustrated because his shots aren’t falling. You can’t force someone to shoot better. Knowing Trae, it will come to him. Until then, Nate needs to run plays that involves DJ, JC, Bogie, Dre and AJ more not to depend on Trae dropping 30+ a night. He will get his shots back, and he will play off ball, once Trae feels less pressure of carrying the team…
