So what happened to the defense?

So for decades, literally decades, the Pacers were known for being a good defensive team (or at least not a bad one). And I know that when Dan Burke left that seems to have drastically changed. But since Carlisle took over, it’s seemingly gotten worse despite Turner being on the court.

So what’s up? I mean, how do we fix this? Is Tyrese such a bad defender that we just will be subject to getting carved up now and again?

Culture can’t dictate on court abilities. We have a lot of young guys now, youth tends to not be as good defensively as the veteran players are.

Tyrese isn’t that bad of a defender. Averages almost 2 steals a game. I’m more concerned with Buddy on the defensive end

Rick has almost never been a good defensive coach, even his best team ever in 2011 was barely top 10 there

Outside of Myles Turner, they don’t have the talent for 1 on 1 excellent defense. They play good team defense at times, but that is basically masking players defensive inefficiencies and usually always results in an open shot or contest at the rim. The pendulum swung to where they focus on offense now. With due time and a few roster upgrades, the hope is they remain a high-powered offense and at least above average defensively. Our style of play is entertaining, but it doesn’t do well during the half-court offense of the playoffs.

We replaced pretty much every single player. The one guy we kept is our defender
