Boston Celtics collapse, recover, and beat the Los Angeles Lakers in OT behind Jayson Tatum's 44

The Boston Celtics were cruising and up 20 when they relaxed and the Lakers went on a huge run. Then the Lakers got up 13 and the Celtics went on a huge run to tie the game and force OT, where they went on another big run to win the game. Jayson Tatum dropped 44 and Jaylen Brown had 25. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal explains exactly why the game flowed the way it did, has some praise for Jaylen and Jayson, and gets into why building an ugly sandcastle is just fine.

  1. Pros:
    -Celtics won
-26-8 run to finish the game
    -Lakers lost

    Cons:
    -Blew a 20 point lead
    -45-12 run by the Lakers

    Positive outcome in my books

  2. Refs wanted the lakers to win this game badly. celtics breathe on AD and its a touch foul. absurd number of travelling calls. while celtics couldn't get calls to get to the line.

it was an atrocious game that doesn't wipe what happened against the warriors and the clippers. we won because the lakers got tired (because they're old) and we made 3's better this time. not exactly a recipe for success in the postseason. C's need to be better.

  3. Celtics have the easiest remaining schedule left of all teams. VS .484… whereas Milwaukee has the 13th hardest schedule remaining.

It will be great easing Timelord back in over these next 7 homegames.

Hopefully we can create some separation from milwaukee aswell as defeating them Christmas day 🎄 ☘

  4. To see the Celtics workout their mental toughness in realtime was a thing to see….blowing a 20pt lead, then comeback from a 13 pt deficit…felt like two separate games hahaha Game had the soles of my feet sweating lol. Best win of the road trip…and Season imho cuz its the Lakers haha 💪🏽💪🏽☘☘☘☘

  5. JB is shooting better on the midrange better than everyone this season (including the guy they wanted to trade him for…)

  6. Finally some mental toughness through adversity. You can see the difference in JT he really wanted this game and to win it, sure he had some weird turnovers but no one’s perfect but this is the JT we are used to seeing and hopes that shows up like this when he’s playing the warriors where he looked petrified and looked like he was worrying way too much and the lights were too bright. Crazy thing is that the lights are brightest in LA and you’re playing Lebron and AD.. so I don’t think it’s a big moment type of thing he’s dealing with it’s just the warriors and what they did to him in the finals. You already know what JB is gonna bring even tho my only problem is that handle my goodness it’s better but atleast he’s gonna bring it every night. And we can’t rely on Marcus to chuck up threes when our offense goes stagnant my only problem team wise is when we aren’t rolling everyone wants to go 1 on 1. But boy do these boys need there rest, they deserved it after a win like that vs the Lakers, take ya days off boys and don’t even bother touching a ball for a few days. #18 is a long road not as easy as a lot of our fans thinks it is but it’s still achievable

  7. Question. If midrange shots are the type of shots that seem to be really effective against switching and zone defenses which teams like the warriors excel at, maybe he should take more against teams like them specifically? I think everyone knows Jayson is searching for layups and threes and the warriors do a great job of taking away the layups or at least making them very difficult, which means he basically has to hit threes to score his points. Overall against teams like that his options are limited which makes him predictable. I’m not saying he should take more midrange shots in every game, just more against the teams that are successfully taking layups away from him. What do you guys think?

  8. Jason not shooting midrange shots makes him easier to defend. He needs to be lethal wherever he has the ball. Especially when teams are playing him to first stop the 3s and then stop his desperate, out-of-control drives to the basket. He needs to be able to drive and pull up for a midrange jumper. KD does it all the time.

  9. You know the Celtics are an amazing team when people call a 2 game loss a collapse. Lol
The league MVP did what MVPs do. That seals the deal.
