[Draymond Green] Regarding 2022 NBA Finals: “At Game 3, I was f–king rattled… I heard everything you could possibly hear in that arena [including the N-word on multiple occasions, Green said]. … Shoutout to the GOAT Stephen Curry because in Game 4 I still wasn’t myself. And then he carried me.”

Draymond Green opens up about his experiences during the 2022 NBA Finals, especially in Boston’s T.D. Garden during an appearance on *Throwing Bones*:

>At Game 3, I was f–king rattled,” Green said. “I heard everything you could possibly hear in that arena.”
>
>The Michigan State product \[Draymond Green\] noted fans in Boston called him the N-word on multiple occasions as he finished a Game 3 loss with just two points, four rebounds and three assists.
>
>”I’ve been booed damn near in every arena in the NBA, that was a different thing,” Green said. “So going into Game 4 down 2-1, I’m just like I just need to come in here and stabilize myself. Shoutout to the GOAT Stephen Curry because in Game 4 I still wasn’t myself, but I rallied enough to be better. And then he carried me.”

  2. EaglesPvM

It’s hard to believe anything this dude says anymore

Edit: thanks guys, but you don’t need to reply anymore. I was just chatting shit because of his comments the other day

Edit 2 : fuck the Celtics

  3. BatmanButShak

so glad my goat walked into the most racist arena in basketball history and shit on their logo and took home a FMVP.

    FUCK BOSTON

  4. PM-ME-UR-B00BYS

I mean it’s the same fanbase that broke into their superstar’s home, destroyed his trophies and shat in his bed so not really surprised

  5. ChairmanOfCringe

He was also rattled during game 1 at home. What’s his excuse for that?

  6. Sir-xer21

He acts like this is the first time he’s heard racism at a basketball game.

This is ridiculous, and just here to distract from him being a crybaby the other night. Celtics fans are kinda known for this, so this really isn’t news, sadly.

  7. big_hon3y

Dude doesn’t realize Stephs been carrying him all his career lol. No doubt greens a good player, but without Steph he’s nowhere near four championships.

  8. No-Tip3782

where are the players/coaches coming out and attesting to this? if this actually happened it would’ve been mentioned before

  9. Champion-of-the-Sun5

It’s embarrassing to be a Celtics fan. There’s A LOT of fans in the city, in MA and in the arena that do not fit this bill, and aren’t given the benefit of the doubt, and haven’t really had a reason to. Classless fans get to speak as a majority.

It’s a shame to be associated with the most narcissistic fanbase in sports, who’s behaviors create a somewhat false generalization for the majority.

There’s A LOT of us in MA who share the same opinions about the depths of Boston as Draymond. It’s disappointing to see to constant flaming of Boston, and it’s also disappointing that there’s still a reason to do it.

I don’t understand how these racist assholes have any desire to watch the NBA with as many black players they have. It makes absolutely no sense. This is just evil. I wish the NBA would do something about it. Racism exists because America allows it to.

  11. pinkiebear

The way he keeps saying Steph did all that in game 4 to protect him from slander is comedy. Like dude not everything is about you. Think Steph was just locked in to win.

  12. Jaklin765

People love to act like this only happens in Boston. It happens everywhere. Embarrassing regardless.

  13. I can’t wait for a nice, civil discussion on race from my favorite subreddit

  14. NotXiJinpingGoUSA

Draymond you’ve been “rattled” for like 2 years now, and Steph has always been carrying you.

  15. EntertainerNo3007

Can’t wait till this clown is retired

  16. ballsohaahd

So he got black dude kicked out in Milwaukee cuz he heard some stuff in Boston during the playoffs?

I’m going to try to be as neutral as I can be here to provide historical context to these statements and then ultimately say why I think Draymond is full of shit. I also want to headline what I’m about to say by making it clear that I do not support racism and think that as a *country* we still have a lot of work to do to promote true equality. I also think that everyone has to be better (all races because other races are racist).

You need to understand the history of Boston sports and then the modern day perception of Boston will make more sense to you. Boston sports have always been very progressive. On the Celtics alone we had the first black superstar, the first black head coach, and the first all black starting lineup. Now let’s focus on Russell for a second. He was a superstar in the 1950s when we still had segregation across America (1965 was when MA passed laws to end segregation specifically). Russell naturally experienced extreme racism because for lack of better terms, racism was still widely very acceptable back then. Is that right? No. Was it only Boston? Absolutely fucking not.

That said, because we had the first black superstar we were the first racist nba fanbase but what so many people cannot see is that Russell would’ve experienced equal or worse racism with any other franchise depending on the geography. Now fast forward to the first all black starting 5 in 1964. Very similar story here I don’t need to repeat myself.

Now fast forward to the modern era. There are few reports outside of LeBron and other people pandering a 7 decade old narrative that “Boston is racist as fuck” (LeBron 2022). One fan did use a slur towards Marcus Smart which is not okay and I’d say 99% of people at Celtics games would never say anything like that. Personally I’ve been going to Celtics games for almost two decades and have probably been to over 100 of them and have never heard a word of racism there. I’m not going to sit here and say what about xyz but there have been multiple instances out of Utah, someone spray painted a racial slur on lebrons house in LA, Wilt was so badly hit with racism in Philly that he had to take a break from basketball, etc. This shit happens everywhere and it’s not okay but Boston is only the punching bag because our organizations have always been the most progressive out of anyone. People are slow to change but now MA stands above all the other states imo. We don’t have cop killings, nobody is spray painting the N word on Jayson Tatums mansion in Newton, and we have the greatest economy in the country. I think most Boston fans can agree that we love the guys who choose to play for us. I can speak for myself when I say I have tremendous respect for our players and value them (even though I don’t know any of them at all) as humans who are doing a job they love.

Now that I’ve stated that I want to reiterate that I’m not really trying to compare or defend the past at all but I think the history behind it is important. I want people to know what they are saying and why they are actually saying it so that the next time a post like this comes up and everyone calls Boston the racist capital of the world they can actually provide some historically accurate context.

In this instance I do not believe Draymond. I’m sorry but I think he’s grasping at straws and is a little butthurt that Boston basically told him to go fuck himself. I think Draymond is a follower not a leader and I think that he heard that the cool thing to do is call Boston racist without providing any background for why he’s saying it. And say we humor him and we delete Boston off the face of the earth… does that solve problems with racism in America? Will players never hear another asshole say something stupid? I doubt it.

Last time I checked “Fuck you Draymond” doesn’t mean we hate you because you’re an extremely successful black athlete. It means we hate you because you’re an asshole and his comments really drive it home because it makes zero sense for him to come out 6 months later saying this instead of when it was happening. I hope we continue to chant fuck you Draymond.

Edit: I love that this is getting downvoted lol I think that you guys are all right. If we eliminate Boston from America then it will be clean of all of its racism and athletes will never be served another slur by some asshole at a game ever again.

  18. randomlewis69

This dude also thought he heard death threats in Milwaukee from some R&B singer. Can’t trust Draymond’s ears. Fuck that guy.

  19. 2020IsANightmare

    Draymond Green vs Celtics fans.

That’s the trump vs DeSantis debate of the sports world.

  20. yearsreeling

Fuck this guy. Most unlikable player in the league. What a raging narcissist.

  21. Necroassassin32

Lmao, Celtics fans are on a downvote streak in this thread.

  22. MostHighNebi

Don’t forget Draymond threw a tantrum at ref and told Kerr to challenge call and it got Rejected 😂

  23. YaGuyGaara

Celtics fans chanting racist shit? No surprise there

  24. Brady331

Remember when he got a Bucks fan ejected for no reason, good times

  25. connie-lingus38

weird this comes out right after he kicks a fan out of the arena, dudes just got to constantly make everything about himself. Essentially saying Steph went off in game four to protect him.

I mean who else makes a documentary about punching your teammate in the face

  26. swanky_t1ger

This guy would literally talk for 30 minutes on air about getting bit by a mosquito but he didn’t mention this for months? And right after he got another fan tossed? Sus

  27. Man said Steph carried him like they’re equals 🤣 So disgusted that fans have hyped dude to think he’s really nice

  28. colocasi4

Draymond….all this doesn’t excuse your behaviour by punching out your teammate.

  29. Beantowntommy

Every time I hear this, it makes me sad. I go to a ton of Celtics games and I myself have never heard anything racist, but if I did, I would instantly seek out security and tell them who said what in hopes that they would be tossed from the game on site. There’s no place for it, and it gives our city a shitty reputation when it shouldn’t have that reputation. Unfortunately a few bad actors make a name for the entirety of our fan base.

I also don’t want to defend Boston in any way, even though I live here. I’m not gonna sit here and say “but everyone is racist” blah blah.

To my fellow Boston fans, why do you try to say this isn’t true when athletes in other sports say the same thing? Sure Draymond isn’t the most liked dude (I hate him lol) but the only way headlines like this stop is if people at games who aren’t racist pricks, denounce the ass holes on site who are doing things like this.
