Curran: Last two weeks 'eliminates' chance Patriots keep status quo with offensive coaches next year

Tom E. Curran, Phil Perry and Tom Giles join Trenni Casey on Arbella Early Edition to react to the Patriots’ loss to the Las Vegas Raiders and debate whether or not this is some sort of breaking point for Bill Belichick and this year’s team. Is there any chance the team brings back the current coaching staff next year, and how much blame do the players versus the coaching staff deserve for the issues in Sunday’s loss, and all season in general?

  1. when your players take it upon themselves to start playing hood ball, all while making millions, maybe it's time to hang it up…

  2. Here's the problem: Can anyone really trust Bill to make the correct changes? I mean, he put Joe Judge, a lifelong special teams coach at QB coach. Then he put Matt Patricia, a lifelong defensive coach, at Offensive Coordinator AND as Offensive Line Coach (these two jobs are, arguably, the two most important jobs on the team after Head Coach). Bill CLEARLY has no respect for these coaching positions at all, otherwise, he would not have assigned two guys to do THREE JOBS at which neither of them had ANY experience. Yeah, I know Patricia started his coaching career on the offensive side of the ball but that was as an offensive line coach's ASSISTANT and that was for only ONE season SEVENTEEN years ago. So, again, I ask you, can you trust Bill to not just make these changes but to find the BEST QUALIFIED people for the job? Or will he just hand these jobs to more of his sycophantic friends? I don't think he can be trusted to do what's best for the team anymore. His decision to bench his best CB in a Super Bowl was not in the best interest of the team. His decision to let Brady walk away was not in the best interest of the team. And, the idiotic decisions to put Judge and Patricia into roles they were GROSSLY UNQUALIFIED FOR were not in the best interest of the team. There's a pattern here and it's trending BADLY. I'd rather see Kraft move on from Bill and replace the entire staff. That might prove easier than hoping Bill will do the right thing. Also, the guy is going to be 71 next season and he's already showing signs of no longer being as fully invested in the job as he once was. Thank him for his service. And let him chase Shula's record in Houston or Carolina, or, anywhere else.

  3. Keep bill get rid of all his “friends” he try’d to look out for Patricia and judge

  4. Everyone wears out their welcome eventually. Bill's worn out his. The game has passed him by. Just looking at this offense tells you that. And the vaunted defense cannot get a crucial stop when the opposing team is the least bit competent on offense.

  5. Let Bill stay to get the record for wins – he has earned the opportunity to break Shula's record! But get a new GM to draft the players and spend the 50M and let Bill focus on coaching.

  6. As a season ticket holder for almost 30 years, I’m ashamed to be one and I will not be renewing my tickets Mr. craft until you get your effing head out of your ass and make some major moves either fire that jerk or bring in a general manager that will hire an excellent offensive coordinator a quarterbacks coach, and I sense of line coach, and a defensive coordinator and Belichick or just coach and have zero control over anything until that happens. I will not be renewing my tickets you can go fly a kite, Mr. craft.

  7. Tom, is there something wrong with you? Why can’t you or anybody else mention we need a goddamn general manager to control everything how come nobody says that I mean what’s wrong with you people we can’t have them have any more control over players over trades overdraft fixed over wire, pick ups. If he doesn’t like it, and crafts needs to fire him and move on, you guys never ever mention it.

  8. Tom Brady is an old player now, but when he left New England the dynasty ended.
Patriots are just another football team now. It will probably be a decade or few decades before the Patriots can put a great team on the field. QBs such as Josh Allen, Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow are just getting their careers started. So until they are at the end of their careers the Patriot fans shouldn't expect much from this franchise.

  9. I don't think Mac Jones is the future. I don't see him in the same tier as Josh Allen, Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow. Best Patriots will do is the 7th or 6th seed in playoffs every other year. Maybe they ought to make a major trade with Chargers for Hubert.

  10. Belichicks Career Head Coaching Record w/out a Tom Brady 78-87. Not even a .500 average coach. I rest my case your Honor!

  11. Bill is arrogant and has lost any semblance of adeptness. He needs to step down and walk away. He has ruined his own team

  12. He should have been fired after one bad season with his children running any part of the team. Terrible decision

  13. When are these gutless reporters going to grow some backbone and actually call out BB, for spinning nonsense! Hes actually embarrassing, you can get away with grunts and one word answers if you win, but not defeats like Sunday!!!

  14. If Bill does leave hopefully he ends up with the Chargers, a team with lots of potential (Herbert) but needs better coaching. However I doubt Bill leaves unless he wants to, who would they get that is better or even half as good. These last three games are like a SB run for Pats, Cincy, Miami, Buffalo. If they come up short against these three it will give them a good idea what needs to be addressed in off season.

  15. You get some calls and you don't get some calls. They even out . As for despair I was fortunate enough to be at the game as a Pat's fan and the pain and suffering was pretty dramatic for many.

  16. As a long time bills fan this makes me so happy. Over 20 years of abuse by this team has come back to bite them in the ass and brought them back to reality. 😂

  17. Below average ( 500) coach without Brady and it's over 160 games. The equivalent of over 9 seasons below 500.

  18. Belichick is washed, he’s trolling the world at this point literally letting his dog make draft picks 😂😅 he doesn’t GAF

  19. Even time management has been screwy this year, something they were always so good at. The coaching has been terrible all year. The best thing that could happen now would be to lose the last 3 games, so the necessity to blow it all up is even more clear.

  20. Oh and, by the way, Bill the "genius", Bill the GOAT, is now 6-11 versus former staff or players in head-to-head matchups. And his former staff members have SUCKED as head coaches. Andy Reid by comparison is 15-8.

  21. "Why not have enough angles to determine a game changing play" …Because the NFL and Las Vegan betting says otherwise, all about the $$$$$$.
