Atlanta Hawks Need To Grow Up

Dejounte Murray was a little more blunt in his assessment, saying the Hawks need to ‘grow up.’ “I think we just got sloppy, got comfortable,” said Murray of the final three minutes. “Like I was preaching after the game, we’ve got to grow up. Starting with me. Just what we’re playing for, these type of games show we’re not playing to win and get to the playoffs and try to make noise. We’ve got to grow up. It’s OK to learn from a win, even losses, but you’d rather learn from a win than a loss. We got sloppy and comfortable and almost lost the game.”

  1. I love DJ’s mindset. I know they will get there. They have the talent, but they lack that dog mentality. DJ is bringing it. Trae is starting to get his shots back. Players are getting healthier. I respect Nate on how he relates to and back up his players, but he is not the best coach. He needs to adjust his plays. I love how we got better in defense, but that’s mostly by trades. How are we dropping in offense so badly? We went from top 3 to close to bottom. Losing Huerter hurts, but that’s not the main thing. People blame Trae for not playing off ball, but I don’t see enough plays where they are setting screens and moving the ball. We have good shooters and great young players. Use them. Just like last night, we should have 5+ players getting double digit points every night. Kudos to AJ. I thought Hawks made a mistake going with Griffin, rather than a big man. I’m glad I was wrong on that. The dude is becoming very dependable shooter with very high IQ.

  2. The need to grow up might be a sign that some of these guys can't handle due criticism. That starts with Trae. Not showing up to an important game over an argument between him and Nate was a huge red flag. Nate needs to go, but Trae is the main source of the frustration in Atlanta. He needs to grow up and realize he needs to adjust his playing style to make it work between him and Dejounte. Trae is the one who's supposed to be playing off ball. Instead, possibly without realizing it, he's forcing Dejounte to play off ball. That's not his game. DJ is not a good enough shooter for that, but Trae is. In high school, all Trae did was play off ball. He averaged 42 points and under 5 assists per game in his senior year. So he CAN do it. He needs to get back to that. He needs to remember what made him a star in the first place. If Trae grows up, the rest of the team will follow.

  3. Dejounte Murray wasn’t wrong from wa he said & too u need guys like him to say this like cause they already got the talent to show behind it they just gotta keep up with winning & try best to get far in playoffs he even said himself too it wasn’t like he said his team but not him included but no he actually included himself & too I watched last night I even seen him miss good shots & open shots & 3’s even tho he came in clutch with the 2 free throws when they were down 1 he tied game off first free throw then off the second one he got them up 1
