Deandre Ayton vs. Everyone Plus What the Mat Ishbia Era Means for the Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns could undergo a lot of change now that Mat Ishbia will buy the team from Robert Sarver. Brendon Kleen is joined by Aaron Edwards to project what Ishbia’s arrival could mean for the Suns and James Jones specifically. But first, a quick conversation on Deandre Ayton getting an earful from Mikal Bridges and Monty Williams this week and what it tells us about where this Suns team is behind the scenes.

  1. Can't blame Ayton. Imagine being a young big picked ahead of Luka, forced to play with CP3 and Book. Put the guy out of his misery. Ship him somewhere else already.

Just look up Kenyon Martin's comments on playing with CP3.

  2. All problems fall on James Jones. The longer he waits the bigger the return for Crowder should be

  3. Look, I like DA. However, he is soft. He seems to care about playing video games more than winning or becoming an all star.
I truly believe the Suns have held on to the Crowder's corpse to package him w/DA for a great player.

  4. McDonough drafted Booker, Ayton, and Bridges. He had a lot of misses but JJ has been a turd, poor drafting, not giving extension to Stick and DA, Any GM would've completed the CP3 trade. He wanted to play with Book and OKC was doing a solid for getting them to the playoffs, no solid off-season signings or trades. He's a poor GM. Sorry I've been saying this for 2 years. Zero faith in JJ.

  5. What we’re seeing from DA over the past few weeks is that he has sacrificed his game for the team. DA seems to be on a short leach when it comes to mins played. It’s always 25-30 and if he’s cooking he sits for extended mins. He gets crucified for not be passionate or physical but yet when he does he’s getting soft offensive fouls and being called a whiny. He’s always going to get Heat because EVERYONE is still twerking for Luka!!

  6. This new owner seems aggressive. His business doubled the number of employees in 2019, and again in 2020 and again in 2021. Right now he is losing money offering below rate mortgages to drive his competitors out of business. If this massive growth pays off he will have even more money, but history is littered with businessmen who grew too fast and couldn’t survive the eventual economic down turn. I imagine that aggressiveness would carry over to the Suns.

  7. I think we phx fans kinda tripping tbh. I get that we want DA to be a dominating figure but he’s only 24.. I feel like this is the time where he really gonna start to pop out. His strength and hopefully his mental will only continue to grow. By the time he 27 he will be our Jokic.

  8. Emotions will fly when teams know they can be better and aren't playing the best basketball, as is the case against the Wizards, and Rockets, and the Magics, and the Mavericks, and Celtics.

This whole "skirmish", to me, just means growth because, again, they know they have the potential.

I mean, the Suns are top 4 despite all of this! If they were in the play-in zone then I would be worried.

Lastly, as a side note, I don't think people appreciate (truly) what Cam Johnson brings to the table. Him being out is a big factor. Alas, he will be back and we will see some magic happen!

  9. I mean, nobody is worried about playing the grizzlies to be honest. On the other side of things, Mikal should be the one being held accountable over DA. I don't see this team being successful long term with Monty at the helm. If JJ doesn't start making moves, perhaps he should be on the way out too.

  10. Brandon I’ve been telling you since you started this channel JAMES JONES IS OVERRATED!! He hasn’t made ANY moves that have really benefitted the team long term. CP3 is on his last leg and it was a mistake to renew him – he was a stop gap from day 1 and everybody ignored this. It was a mistake to draft sticks over Halliburton. It was a mistake to trade our last lottery pick for peanuts. The roster is trash!

All of this and somehow, people give James Jones credit yet all that’s happened is the suns drafted well (before James Jones) and those young players have improved. The improvement of Mikal Ayton and Cam Johnson have lifted the suns NOT James Jones. He can’t keep living off the cp3 trade. CP3 is now COOKED! he’s slow, small, and injury prone + when we need him most he’ll be injured… but because he’s a hall of famer he gets all of this leeway.

  11. Had me looking at my internet connection with the bandwith issues… but not me…. it is you Brendon. 😆
