  1. Ok… to explain a point in the chat is damn near impossible. So I try it this way (even though I know you guys will most likely not read or respond). I DO NOT think Powell is a good starting Center. I NEVER said he is. All I am saying is he is the best option we have right now! I also didnt say he was good in the PO either. I said WHO ELSE SHOULD START? Powell/Maxi were our only Bigs and one had to start… And in my opinion playing Powell 10 minutes as a starter was better then playing him 10 minutes off the bench! Doesnt mean he was good. I NEVER said he was good! I dont say he is good right now, but he is THE BEST OPTION. Cause at least our starting lineups with Powell (Luka/Dinwiddie/THJ(or Bullock)/DFS/Powell) have a positive NetRtg, as well as most of our bench lineups with Wood.

Let me try to explain it this way. Lets say Jokic/Embiid are 100% of the ideal Centers. For different reasons of course, but just as an example. Powell as a startin C is 25%, Wood is 50% as a starting C. BOTH shouldnt start at C, but they are all we got. So hey, Wood should clearly start, shouldnt he? Cause he is twice as good as Powell! BUT Powell of the bench is 25%. Cause Powells numbers are basically the same, no matter if he starts or comes off the bench. Wood off the bench is 60%, cause he just works better against bench lineups.

So overall, the combination of 25% and 60% (Powell starting Wood off the bench) is better then 50% and 25% (Wood starting Powell off the bench). That doesnt mean Wood shouldnt play 30 minutes (as he does in December), or Powell is the better player. Not even close. Just that it is better for the team OVERALL if Powell starts. I would love to have a better option. I would trade Powell+Bullock+1st for Turner in a heartbeat. Or Powell+1st for Pöltl… I never said I wouldnt. I did hope that McGee could give us 35% (back to the analogy). Well sadly he is only 15%, so we are back to Powell starting!

I also never said I am against Wood starting per se. I am ONLY against Wood starting as the LONE big. Once more, if we had Turner or Pöltl, 2 good defensive bigs, I think Wood could and should start at PF! I also think a starting lineup of Luka/Green/DFS/Wood/Maxi would be worth a try. But thats out of the picture (for now). But you guys also think Maxi shouldnt play, cause he is so bad at everything. So I am pretty sure you wouldnt like that either… But at this moment with this roster, our best chance of winning is playing Wood off the bench and Powell starting. It isnt a good option, but all we got!

And the last point. Overall I dont like the hate Powell gets. Yes he should be a 10-15 minutes bench player at best, yes his salary is to high for what he can give us. But he still has an important role on the team. I hate when people say he should be traded for scrubs and we would be better off just cutting him. Cause he is extremely important OFF THE FIELD, even if he isnt very productive on the field. Here is my opinion. Dallas should try to hold him, just for his off court role alone. Not for 10 mio per year, hopefully not even for 5. But 11/3, as an emergency backup and locker room leader? In a heartbeat! I would love to see him being "our Haslem" for years to come. Why do you think the Heat resign him year after year, even if he doesnt play more then 10 games a season overall for half a decade?

And last but not least Maxi. In an ideal world he would also only play 20-25 minutes as a switchable 3&D big off the bench. And 11 Mio isnt a bad contract for that role either. You look at the raw numbers and think 11 mio is starter money… it isnt! That will be 8.2% of the salary cap next season (134 Mio). Our entire salaries this season are 168 Mio, and i doubt it will be lower next year. So his salary will be around 6.5% of the entire team salary. Is that an overpay for a 20+ minutes roleplayer? People have to stop looking at raw numbers if it comes to contracts. Look at the percentages of the cap and team salaries. Superstars/Franchise players 35% of the cap, Allstars/CoStars 25-30% of the cap. 3rd stars/possible Allstars 20-25% of the cap, good starters/6th man 15%, good roleplayers 10%, end of the bench rotation players 5%.

So an Ideal Salary structure would be: 35%/28%/22%/15%/15%/10%/10%/5%/5% rest minimum deals or young talents to someday replace the core if they get to expensive. Yes, thats 145%… so this team would be deep in the LuxTax, but does anyone think a true contender (without a Superstar/Co star on a rookie contract) wont be in the tax? Look at the Grizzlies. Do you think Bane will get a 25% max in 2 years? I do! And Morants 30% Max starts next season. What will Brooks new contract look like? He is also a FA this summer…

If I look at our team right now… Bertans 13% of the cap, THJ 16% of the cap are the biggest problems if it comes to our salay structure. One should be 10% (THJ) and the other one 5% (Bertans) at best. Then comes Powell at 9.5% (he should be at 5%) and Dinwiddie at 16% is also a bit overpriced. On the other hand DFS at 10% of the cap is fairly priced, Maxi at 8% is fair, Bullock is ok at 9%, Wood at 11.5% is really good and Green is a true bargain at 2.5%. Means we have to much average players on above average contracts. But Maxi isnt one of them and also wont be next season.

  2. so do we understand now this team is more than one player away.no one player will help yet and we would use all our picks and have the same players. Can we admit now we need to make some moves and hope they are good enough to get luka to give a couple more years to restock but it is going to take picks because nobody wants our players or their contracts. they have already said it would be 24 25 before they can make a big move what if you wait and it works out like kp

  3. people think Maxie and Powel and MaGee are overpaid at 32 and 34 wait until Beal and dam and some of these other players get that age, they will be making 50 million plus lol try moving them then. lol might want to think about long term effects of star trades

  4. I have said the same players since last year people got to see Naz as a starter.
    walker Kessler Vanderbilt.
    Naz reed
    cam reddish
    Kuzma or Deni
then get anyone over 25 off of the books except dodo and spence they will be trade peace's for bigger play next year
