Not sure why this is a question because if he was here the way things have unfolded would not have gone the same way.
Dallas would be far better with Brunson. He's a better secondary Ball handler than anyone we have with Luka

In The Playoffs last year He carried The Team in Luka's absence, That should have been proof that The Mav's should have kept Brunson
Mavs roster is a lottery pick team without Luka. Brunson was the difference maker. Brunson’s would add 5 to 8 wins. Soo many close games this season that Brunson helps get the W. Reason you could push to 8 wins is the addition of Cwood and THJ. I agree Cuban is cheap but to be fair who were the Mavericks supposed to go add from this previous offseason that realistically wanted to come here?? No one. So ok let’s get some trade options in here . They did we landed Cwood. What ball handler is out there that could have replaced Brunson?? No one. Mavericks missed there opportunity to resign him back at the beginning of last year. When they passed on him earlier on there was no way he was coming back. The Mavericks have to draft good players but don’t have draft picks. It appears the might have one in Hardy but they elect to play Frank, bullock, and now Kemba over him so there is no real development opportunity other then clean up minutes. Luka is the kind of player that needs other playmakers (Brunson and dinwidie) fit perfectly but Mavericks missed the mark and let Brunson walk and try to enter this season with one true point guard Luka. Luka play style is ball dominate with passing, creating shots for other, and scoring. He needs other playmakers around him that are willing to submit to him but still be able to create for others and them self and play off ball with him. Brunson and Dinwidie fit perfectly. They need to make all the effort to develop Green and Hardy with hopes they could replace the lack of playmaking out side of Luka.
The mavs lost on this one. Brunson has been a gem 💎 for the Knicks.
