Sixers doomed by lack of adjustments in defending C.J. McCollum and turnovers in loss to Pelicans

An ability to prevent C.J. McCollum from making mostly wide-open three-pointers led to the 76ers’ 127-116 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans Friday night at the Smoothie King Center. The Sixers also committed 19 turnovers.

  1. Christian was the player/matchup that I was least worried about, but I forget that this isn't the playoffs, so Christian will get hot sometimes 😄

  2. The thing is for all of our weaknesses it seems like we do actually have some pieces to match these teams if Doc would use them and be open to different rotations. For example, I just don't think George should play so many minutes in every game, if not at all sometimes. Against certain teams he's just not athletic enough.

  3. I hate to see 👀👁️ solemn 😔😓 faces. Pelicans got a point 👉 ☝️ to prove, C.J. McCollum has a point 👉☝️ to prove but the 76ers got the next one, you can't win them all and everyone loses sometimes

  4. Issue is less on the perimeter defender and more so on the way doc decided to have embiid play it. Cj wasn’t isoing them for threes, he came off a screen and embiid was sitting back in a drop. Reality is even with Thybulle out there he still woulda been stone walled by those screens. You can argue he gets over one or two more than melton did, but the root issue was the inability to guard the pnr specifically the drop coverage

  5. I don't do this but this loss is a lot bit on Doc. We got possibly the best defender in the NBA. There comes a time where you got to sic him on CJ who's cooking. You don't keep holding that card in your pocket

  6. I agree with Keith today. Doc is to blame for his rotation and adjustments, and Embiid and Harden deserve a lot of blame for turnovers, and Embiid did poor rebounding again. Doc need to keep two starters on the floor at all times.

  7. The coaching adjustments where abysmal.
    1) not playing Thybulle or Reed.

    2) not matching zions minutes with Embiids minutes. Once the Pells put him against our second we had no shot blocking

    3) not having Embiid or Harden on the floor at all times

    4) not featuring Harden in the offense enough. 8 shots attempts is enough.

    5) Embiid stagnation in the offense. Every play was embiid calling for the ball to iso. And we he did pass it was the wrong one or a bad pass overall

    6) defending the Pells screen with drop coverage / zone. We were asking to get 3s shot in our face

  8. We hype Isaiah Joe up too much. Context is important. First, he's playing in OKC with way less pressure to win, so he's naturally shooting better. Secondly, he's only taking like 3 3s a game, he's not playing many minutes, and he's only made about 45 3s this season. He's not some prolific 3 point shooter. He's averaging 12 minutes per game in OKC. He averaged 11 minutes per game and played 55 games in Philly last season and wasn't able to hit at the clip he's hitting now. So, we need to stop acting like we made a huge mistake letting him go.

  9. CJ got so many 3s due to Embiid playing drop coverage on P&R.. he ain’t step up until after he made 6 3s already lmao

  10. We are over analyzing this. Pelican were so hot all game . We turned the ball over too much and the officials were horrible and we still almost won. Philly Chillax. Doc has to make better adjustments but what team Coach never gets it wrong. We coming off 8 game winning streak so I know we will be fine but negadelphia is back after a brief break.

  11. ROTATION and Lack of Adjustments that's on Doc Rivers 😩 wait until the playoffs, more fans will wake up and see what a poor coach Glenn Rivers is, more 😥 disappointment on the way.
