    Claxton is KILLING IT.

Dude can literally switch on anyone PLUS he is a top 2 shot blocker in the league. He definitely needs to be in the DPOTY discussion

Nets defense has to be top 5 for him to be there

It’s all about Names. Brook Lopez should not be the favorite because he’s leading the blocks. Claxton can give you blocks and defense on the perimeter.

Has Brook’s defense been that good? I know there’s the big narrative for him but besides when we faced him I haven’t watched the Bucks to see what he’s doing on D

Hey remember when Hassan Whiteside got robbed?

If we make deep run I’m sure Clax will be in conversations for sure. Might even win it if he keeps up this rate.

I just know this dude’s other tabs were all porn.

  8. I wouldn’t have Clax in the DPOY conversation, he isn’t far out of it though, which in itself is pretty great.

He is coming along this season. His usage is up, his increased pretty much every statline. I’d have his name in the most improved player conversation.

No disrespect to Clax, he is a big part of the reason Nets keep winning.

He’s not ELITE on defense. (He’s very good and a top 3 MIP)
Most of his numbers that look great (Rim Contest%, Rim Denial%, BPG, OREB%) are all influenced by the fact that he’s the only “big” on the team. Physically, only he, KD, and Simmons really have the ability to be reliable rim defenders, but KD is by no means playing elite rim protection (due to his offensive load and the fact that he has 849478 leg injuries) and Simmons usually has Perimeter responsibilities. Claxton essentially gets all of the Nets’ defensive rim action, and the point of the defense is almost to funnel them to him. Think of it like Utah’s Gobert Defense wherein the whole premise of the defense was “oh this guy has the ball? Lets lead him to Rudy.” The primary difference seems to be that the Nets’ defense is not focuses around Claxton like Utah’s was Rudy, but just funneling offensive players off of he perimeter and into Brooklyn’s length (KD, Simmons, Claxton, kinda Royce). Since Claxton eats most Center minutes, he benefits the most from this scheme.
Couple that with his middling play on elite caliber players (excluding his godlike performance against Giannis) you’ll see he’s pretty mediocre on the perimeter (still above average for a Center) and very good at shot contesting at the rim, but bot necessarily preventing the rim action to begin with. Elite defensive players like Bam, Smart, Gobert, Bridges, sometimes Giannis when he feels like it; all have the ability to shut down a play before it happens and totally make the offense rethink their play moving forwards. He doesn’t have that (yet?)
