In 2020/21, the Nets finished the season with a 48-24 record (55-win pace) and it was pretty much even with Durant on the floor (54-win pace).

However, last year, the Nets were 44-38 but were 36-19 with Durant (54-win pace). In the 20/21 season, the notion was that if the Nets were healthy then they’d win the Championship. It’s quite impressive how a Durant-led Nets were still holding up to the same pace despite him playing with no other top players. He even played a bunch of games with Patty and a host of rookies. The Nets ended up going 8-19 without Durant (24-win pace) which was a massive drop off.

Yes, this year started badly and, yes, Jacque has done an excellent job since coming in but Durant remains *the* key for this team in so many ways and last season, despite the Celtics series, illustrated that emphatically.

If this team continues to grow together, and the likes of Simmons, Harris and co. come back fully healthy, I would back the Nets to beat anyone in the East.
