The Pacers have a logjam at the center position. Is roster construction hindering Jackson’s development? The answer is clear, but Indiana will have to make a few tough decisions in the coming months:

We do not have a logjam at the centre. Jackson hasn’t been playing well enough to warrant playing him over guys like Turner & Smith. If anything we have a logjam of guards, our starting lineup is literally all PG-SG with Turner starting. I think if we got a starting caliber wing and moved one of Duarte or Buddy (not saying we should) then we’d have a lot more flexibility to work with in our rotations.
The issue is our guards have been too good to not play. Guys like Nesmith and Nembhard weren’t meant to be this important this early, Jackson just hasn’t played to their level.
We get a wing starting 5 is along the lines of Hali – Nembhard – Mathruin or Buddy – Wing – Turner
Bench unit: TJ- Mathurin or Duarte – Nesmith- Smith – Jackson
Currently we’ve got 4 guards on both units along with Turner or Smith playing the 5 with the rare occurrence of Brissett. It’s not the amount of centres we have it’s that we have too many decent guards to play.
Edit: also Jackson wasn’t moved to the G-league for no reason. If his play was good enough he’d be getting the minutes, he just needs more development on his skill & frame.

The debacle stems from Turner FINALLY playing as a true center for the first time, and excelling.

Feels like we haven’t had a logjam at Center in nearly a decade.
