Which is the red flag that this FO is lying like bitches again about retooling this off-season. Expect at best a 6 seed team next year, but Lebron likely knows what’s up. If they make no trades, I can see him requesting a trade this off-season. You piss off Lebron, nobody in the league is ever associating with you again.

Jeanie is cheap and wants to avoid the repeater tax, but it’s going to blow up in her greedy face

i really think all the ‘not trading russ’ stuff is posturing. really no reason to let that happen unless you’re re-signing him. you have his bird rights. but even still. pretty weird.

  3. This-May-Be-It

With LeBron being tradeable next season, I’m not really worried. If they want to go cheap, they can go ahead. I doubt he’ll be sticking around. It’s only this season that’s so frustrating because he signed that extension so late.

  4. logone22

They’re not a smart front office. Do not expect smart moves from them

That’s what a lot of people don’t realize. It’s basically wasted free cap space. If they let Russ’s contract expire, it’s not like they will have $47 million in cap space once he is gone. It’s better the Lakers trade for $47 million in value with other players so they will be able to get those contracts on the books coming to the offseason. The only explanation is this team doesn’t want to spend that much money or they believe they have a real shot at a guy like Kyrie or something in the offseason (which is unlikely because of how dysfunctional this front office has been in signing superstar players lately and the fact that they aren’t even capable of offering a max contract).

Ya but what they don’t know, and what the few brightest on here know, is that we’re about to turn that $35M into the 4 best role players the league has to offer.

  7. WheresYourBuhda

No reason to trade Russ and two firsts for nothing that will win a chip so we can be shit the rest of the decade. Laker fans should be thanking the front office they the bleeding will stop soon

  8. Well it’s a little more complicated than that. But not by much.

  9. deftspyder

Dont base what you think is reality on that the poker player is showing you from the other side of the table. even if you are rooting for them.

The problem with alot of the ‘trade related’ posts on this sub is that they are going off PUBLIC statements, when we are are almost entirely outside of the inner workings and private conversations of any actual trade goings on.

The lakers have a hand they are playing to their advantage as bets they can. They are bluffing, they have some cards, and everyone else does too.

The only ones that really knows what were going to actually do and the strategy are in the org.

    “Why Lonnie Leaving?”

Bruh. No one in their right mind would stay with this dumpster fire franchise.

Pelinka has got to be fired for anyone to take them seriously at this point.

  11. RGPISGOOD

Not even 35mil, it’s actually around 34mil projected.

Basically you have 35mil max to build a contender around Lebron, AD, Christie and Jones which is basically impossible especially with how contracts are being handed out these days, scrubs getting 20mil easily.

  12. Aside from that, people keep saying that we will resign all of Bryant, Wenyen, Reaves and Bev given our available cap for next year is insane. No way any of those guys take a minimum on top of multi-year deals when they can easily get more from other teams. The best and only way to get a good return is to trade away some contracts for even 1 year players

  13. Kevinc61

Yep, it’s an example of how some teams use the cap to their advantage although it costs more in tax, while other teams (the Lakers) just allow the salaries to drop off and save the money. There’s a lot of subtleties to managing salaries in the NBA, most fans don’t get it.

  14. People here never understand how cap holds work. If we traded Russ right now for 2 players, we have ZERO cap space in the summer.

  15. nice_kitchen

This is why the people talking about Russ “not playing up to his contract value” are missing the point. If Russ made only $5M we’d be in a WORSE position. Value per cap hit is important, but your max payroll is not a constant. The denominator can change. Teams like Golden State and the Clippers are able to have such a high payroll because they didn’t let expiring deals expire. It would be a massive blunder to go into next season as a cap space team.

  16. Snowbird3939

No way they don’t use some of their leftover cap space to keep Lonnie.

  17. ___FreePalestine___

This was always the plan. They want to get out of the repeater tax. Jeanie can’t compete financially with the rest of the league.

That’s why the current FO narratives are so frustrating. We are more than one move away from contention but that doesn’t mean we should do nothing. We need to set ourselves up for long term success and make the roster better this year at the same time.

Even if we pulled off some blockbuster trade for Beal, Lillard etc, we’ve seen all the flaws of a 3 star build. Or are we just trying to sign Kyrie in the off-season lol?

  19. BuildAroundLeBron

I dont know jack shit about contracts. Why are we only getting 35 million instead of 71?

  20. XxNoKnifexX

That is why the play was always getting back long term contracts that you are fine with. Everything else is just conceding next season as well.

This year is about Bron passing Kareem in a Lakers jersey. In the offseason we will trade him to his destination of choice (except for the clips or boston, not happening) and get a couple 1sts for AD and be dog shit for 3 years. But, we will get young guys who give a shit and try over the scrubs we have after AD and Bron.

Bron gets to spend his final years contending and will get to play a year with his son, AD gets to spend time on the injury list with a new team and we get to move forward with our cheap ass owner and GM who both major agencies hate.

We can all look forward to Pelinka getting an extension in a few years after he traded all our young talent to pay a washed up Klay Thompson 30 million year.

If they make the Hield/Turner trade for Russ plus picks, next years roster won’t be any better. Turner can walk for nothing and Hield is signed for $19M cap hit. They would only have around $15M to round out their roster plus whatever exceptions they have. They need to make a trade to try and maximize how LBJ is currently playing but they need to thread lightly.

  23. Someone needs to put this on a billboard in LA 😂🤣 it would make the news which is better than a protest!

  24. LakersFan15

Honestly, we really have zero chances to win. No assets.

We need to rebuild – there is no other option.
