Tyrese Haliburton: “I think the gains that we’ll see in the next 2-3 years are coming from today. It’s kind of like Memphis. You got a young group of guys together who learn from each other and work every day, and now they’re one of the best teams in the league. That’s what we’re trying to get to.”

>Haliburton admits that it’s easy to daydream about what he can accomplish with Mathurin and Nembhard in the future.

>“It’s hard not to, right? We’re all excited about it.”

>But a few hours before tipping off in Miami, Haliburton quickly turned the conversation back to the present.

>“I think the gains that we’ll see in the next two-to-three years are coming from today,” Haliburton said. “It’s easy for young teams in the league to not win and be like, ‘We’re trying to build’ or whatever. But, man, we have a chance. We have a chance to win some games. We’ve been surprising some people throughout this year, so we’re just focused on every day, how we get better.

People are so infatuated with tanking when most of the time u just don’t hit ever. I’m ok that we are winning games even though we won’t get wemby because at least the pacers have some sort of direction with a future that could lead to success. That’s so much better than what we had a few years ago where we just had veterans already peaking and getting swept in the first round.

I am glad the Pacers didn’t tank. They don’t really have a bad player on the team, other than Goga. They have a lot of opportunity to add players this summer and I think a lot of players would love to play with Mathurin and Tyrese. They were hapless last year and it is nice to see them have some direction this year.

Incredible player and really mature. Happy for the Pacers

Imagine OKC drafting Wemby and trading Giddey, Chet, and like 8 1sts for Hali. Two teams in a row where he completely buys in and then gets moved across the country

Edit: fellas this was clearly not a real trade suggestion lmao. Hali/Shai would be a sick duo though

And then y’all need extensions and the team cant keep yall so they blow it up

Fucking mentioned Nembhard 13 times and not Nesmith once

Fuck the pacers for taking the potential of tyrese squared away from me. I literally made t-shirts and am now in financial ruins because of your selfish actions

If you are already have a solid core who you believe has a a high ceiling, then there is no reason to not have this mindset. Building winning habits early can be more important than extra lottery picks

I’ll go against the grain and say tanking would have still been better for them. As good as they are I think it’s better to just suck for as long as you can like the sixers and then pivot once you’ve got enough pieces.

Yes the process wasn’t perfect but they landed Joel a mvp caliber player and got Simmons who they were able to flip for another former mvp. I think it was well worth what they did.

But especially for teams like Indiana, Toronto or jazz for example I would always go the building through the draft way. Because 9/10 times even if the pacers get into the territory where they are just one star away from being legit title threats they likely won’t land a star.

Nice to see their rebuild going smoothly
