I thought we looked better in this game than any of our other games without Luka idk that’s nice I guess
Here’s hoping the Cleveland front office was not watching this game
SGA put up an absolute clinic on the 3rd q
Luka needs help.
Hardy had a rough game but like that he doesn’t shrink and shy away from trying to make plays because he misses a few shots. He’s just got to learn what works and what doesn’t at this level
Not mad about the L, B2B missing Luka and all the defenders. But it is pretty disheartening we just can’t win at all without Luka this year
Kidd had zero belief in this team with no Luka playing, down 8 with 2 minutes left was doable
The offense just looks lost without Luka, not much else to say, except that even the defence looks sorta lost aswell?
People forget that we have Frank
0-4 without Luka. but yeah Tatum MVP. lol
I think this game confirms the theory from last game: Kidd does not think 8 points in 2 minutes can be overcome.
Losses to Rockets, Magic, Pistons, Thunder twice. Young hungry teams that play hard. It’s always these teams that the mavs are so bad against
12-34 for Tim & Spence, and yet someone in the game thread saw no issue with this. :/
Not gonna get too riled up over this one. Mavs fought hard and kept it within striking distance basically the whole second half.
Separately, good god those Thunder announcers are nightmarish to listen to. Literally just endless complaining about foul calls the entire game practically, including when they were already up 10 with 20 seconds left
C. Wood looking good…
The team looks really, really bad without Luka. They haven’t even won a game without him yet. There were many times when the team just isolated and pounded air on the ball for 20 seconds before making a last second pass and forcing someone to throw it up.
Hardy needs a lot more time and work before he’s serviceable at an nba level but thats to be expected as a rookie.
Just wish we could break into the upper seeding for once. Especially when these other teams eventually get the ball rolling and start playing better.
This roster without Luka would be worse than the 7-59 bobcats.
No defense, no real PG, no cutters, poor FT shooting and just jacking up 3 after 3 after 3.
CWood – love that guy. 27/16 and +1, ~~the only player with a positive +/- if I read the stats right~~. Really wish we had some actual hard info about his future status as a Mav.
Hardy is… a rookie. Just happy he got meaningful minutes. Hope he can learn from this and just continue to improve.
That said, without Luka we’re so obviously a lottery team, and that’s why he’s the real MVP if we make the playoffs (especially if we finish in the top 4).
EDIT: Hardy was +3, so I was wrong about CWood, and that’s a bit of a bright spot for Hardy.
Wood playing 39 minutes and is +1 in an 11 point game. Hardaway and Dinwiddie were terrible on defense and complete black holes on offense. That Hardy, Frank, Wood, Bertans, Bullock lineup looked good in the 4th. Kidd should have stayed with it
Now 21-7 when Luka has 30+ and 2-11 when he doesn’t (including 0-4 when he doesn’t play). Pretty wild how dependent the team is on him this year.
Team had a fighting chance with Kemba at the 1 on Luka rest days. Without him we aren’t very competitive.
We won the second half by 3pts. Baby steps.
Tired of Dinwiddie dribbling for 15 secs. We need a primary ballhandler. Dinwiddie is better off the ball.
I had fun! Happy to see Hardy minutes, fine with letting him make mistakes, especially in a schedule loss type game. Wood played well. Hopefully Doe Doe and Josh Green are back soon, road trip’s gonna be tough.
1 man team missing that 1 man will go as you would expect. 0-4 without Luka so far this season.
Great learning experience for Hardy. And Spencer cannot initiate a competent offense
The issue with the team without Luka is Kidd still try to run a guard heavy offense. I get that that’s the modern NBA style, but Wood’s cooking and OKC has no answer, you pound it inside and play inside out. I know guys like to joke about it, but it probably would’ve made more sense to start Frank at point tonight and have him serve a pass first role than Powell who is absolutely useless without an elite ball handler to set him up and screws up Wood’s post up game.
No team this year has made an MVP case for their star player more convincingly than Mavs when they rest Luka. Literal definition of “most valuable”
I’m not a fan of this automatically sitting Luka every back to back. Stars used to play 4 in 5 nights all the time. We’re basically forfeiting the 2nd game every back to back. It cancels out winning the first of two.
Luka is definitely the MOST VALUABLE player in the league. The Mavs lose all value without him…
