Raptors Reportedly 'First Domino' Of Trade Market

The Toronto Raptors are in position to “set the market” for the upcoming trade deadline, sources told Michael Grange of Sportsnet. “Toronto are the first domino. What they do will affect teams all across the league: Dallas, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Atlanta – not that it’s about deals with any particular team, just that people are going to be waiting to see what the Raptors do before they make their moves. Toronto could set the market,” according to league sources. Gary Trent Jr. and Fred VanVleet both have player options for next season. There is reportedly an “antsiness” surrounding the team due to a lack of direction and success this season, according to sources. – Michael Grange/Sportsnet #torontoraptors #raptors #nbatrade #nba

  1. The raptors had a player by player meeting last weekend and it didnt go well. why would it not go well. Front office probably told the raptors main players mainly siakam and fred vanvleet, they are pulling the plug on the season. Why because as from tampa season, you heard masai's view on play in tournament. Masai Ujiri said play in for what?

Why is this a big deal because siakam is basically in a contract year playing for his supermax. and fred vanvleet is in a contract year playing for his bag. they dont like the word rebuild around scottie barnes because it means tanking and they will not want to sit games out in a contract year. Also siakam wants to win and wont want his supermax contract and all nba vote jeopardized with the tag playing on a lottery team.

so i believe gary trent jr is gone for sure with him opting out of his contract looking for tyler herro money of 30 million a year. they wont risk him walking for nothing. the exception being if siakam is traded, then they have space to pay him. I think they can get at least a 1st round pick for gary trent jr in trade and a young player.

fred vanvleet will also opt out of his contract with the summer free agent market thin. so fred vanvleet will be moved. raptors will not pay fred vanvleet 30 million a year for 4 years, thats just reality. fred will opt out of his contract and some team will likely pay him 3 years 70-75 million. Fred vanvleets value i am not sure of, but i think he is worth at least a 1st round pick maybe 2.

chris boucher will also be moved, as he is older and he still has value to a contending team. my guess they can get a protected 1st for boucher, maybe two second round picks.

pascal siakam if they move him, they will be wanting to rebuild around scottie barnes. that means they will want young players and alot of first round picks coming for him. Think what rudy gobert went for. they will not trade pascal siakam for 2 first round picks and filler.

i think otto porter jr if he is healthy will also be on the trade block before trade deadline.
