SACRAMENTO, Calif. — After dropping their first two home games, the Sacramento Kings jumped back into the win column after dispatching the visiting Orlando Magic 136-111 on Jan. 9.🎙
Harrison Barnes broke loose to make 11 of 13 shots from the field, including 6 of 7 from 3-point territory. His 30 points led eight Kings players in double digits. Overall, the team made 52 of 97 shots (53.6%) from the field.🎙
“I thought offensively tonight, but really this season as a team, we feel confident in what we can do. The biggest thing for us was walking out of here with a win however that was,” Barnes said. “We feel after the last game (136-134 loss to Los Angele Lakers), we let ourselves down. You just have to compete for 48 minutes. So, to come here tonight and get a win, that was the biggest thing for us.”
Keegan Murray had a spectacular shooting display tonight against the Magic. The Rookie made 5 of 7 shots from the field, making 5 of 6 shots in 3-point land to finish with 15 points. He has made five-plus 3s in four games this season, the second-most by a rookie in franchise history.🎙
Murray has knocked down 87 triples this season, passing Isaiah Thomas (83) for the sixth-most in a season by a rookie in team history.🎙
Domantas Sabonis had 12 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists for the Kings (21-18, 12-9 at Golden 1 Center). Kevin Huerter, Trey Lyles, and Malik Monk each had 14 points. Chimezie Metu and De’Aaron Fox contributed 11 points.🎙
“We can be better than what we were tonight. I tell you what, our guys in Orlando, (they) scored 78 points in the paint the first time we played them,” Kings head coach Mike Brown said. “Obviously, our last three opponents have had a field day in the paint. Watching our guys do their work early and talk and cover for one another on most possessions…it was beautiful to see.”
The NBA’s 2022 No. 1 draft pick Paolo Banchero had 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals for the Magic (15-26, 5-14 on the road), who beat the Golden State Warriors 115-101 in San Francisco on Jan. 7. 🎙
Wendell Carter Jr. scored 15 points, pulled down seven rebounds, and had three blocked shots. Franz Wagner and Markelle Fultz added 16 points apiece while Jalen Suggs scored 14 points off the bench.
The Kings made 23 of 46 shots (50%) beyond the arc that got the Magic’s attention. 🎙
“They made a ton of shots. Give them credit – 23 3s, they were moving, they were flying around. Our physicality level wasn’t what it was supposed to be tonight. We kind of let them do what they wanted to do,” Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley said. “Again, you have to give them a ton of credit for the way that they came out (and) how they were energized.”
The Kings’ biggest lead in the game was when Lyles made a reverse layup to make the score 125-94 at the 6:20 mark of the fourth quarter. The Kings had 39 assists with Fox leading the way with nine dimes. 🎙
Five players had four or more assists for the Kings.
“We struggled to guard the 3-point line. I think we kind of take pride in protecting the paint and they’re a great shooting team,” Banchero said. “They got Sabonis on the inside and he draws a lot of attention. When he’s in there, he’s also a great passer. So, he was able to kick out a lot on the drive – kick and get a lot of open shots – and they knocked them down.”
The Kings play the Houston Rockets on Jan. 11 at G1C, the team’s fourth game on a 5-game stretch at home. 🎙

“I think he’s doing a great job. I mean, he’s a major contributor on a team in playoff contention. He’s a big help to a good team, which is impressive for a rookie.”
– Paolo Banchero said of Kings rookie Keegan Murray
Paolo Banchero’s Mom Played for the WNBA Sacramento Monarchs 🦁
Orlando Magic star rookie Paolo Banchero’s mother Rhonda Smith-Banchero played for the now defunct WNBA’s Sacramento Monarchs in 2000. The No. 1 pick overall was born on Nov. 12, 2002 .✍️
A day before the Magic played the Kings, Banchero said his mother warned him about the loud Sacramento fans. Smith-Banchero was drafted in the WNBA’s 2000 Draft by the Monarchs in the 3rd round, the 46th player selected, overall.✍️
“She told me yesterday before the game because I’ve never played in Sacramento. She said the fans are crazy, the fans are loud,” said Banchero, who was born in Seattle, Washington. “She was telling me how they were crazy when she played here. So, that was here message to me: BE READY FOR THE CROWD.”

Special young man I'm excited to his growth
Sacramento Kings fans are the loudest in the entire NBA. There are even interview videos going back to the 1980s where players and coaches are saying that the fans are crazy loud.
Good interview Tony
Pablo Banchero has always been a calm person when speaking of other teams players, the way he complimented Keegan when he was definitely not happy to lose. Shows great character and maturity. He will be a superstar down the road and Orlando is lucky to have him. I'll always remember his sharp purple suit at the NBA draft!
Wtf paulo seems hella down to earth and smart
