ehh that was a bad play, you gotta take the layup there. a layup is always better than a contested high pressure 3pt attempt. if he missed that 3 the narrative would have been completely different and IND would have the ball with a chance to tie or win.

Take the layup. It worked, but that doesn’t mean it was the right move.

Love this possession.
Grimes scared the shit out of me when pulled the ball back out but it was absolutely the right move. Thibs loves milking the clock when he has a lead and forcing the Pacers to play 24 seconds of defense instead of just 10 seconds is in line with his philosophy. Grimes also has ice in his viens and I expect the team to look for him more to close out games.
IQ being trusted to make the final play was him earning the respect from Brunson and Randle. He’s one of our best FT shooters and his ability to breakdown defenses was gonna result in a good play regardless. And seeing him opt to pass is a testament to his growth as a playmaker.
Maybe I’m coping, but Randle is deliberately accepting the doubles thrown at him. Yes, he’s holding on to the too long, but he has shooters surrounding him and he’s big enough to find the open man. He’s getting a little better reading the double. He just needs to be quicker so the defense doesn’t take his passing lanes.
