@luca rosano the reality is siakam supermax 43-50 million a year, rookie max barnes 30-35 million a year, og anunoby max extension 30 million a year, precious achuiwa extension 8-10 million a year is potentially gonna cost up to 115 million dollars a year in 4 players.
you add another 30 million dollar a year player in fred or gary ball park, thats 145 million a year in salary for 5 players.
that means they have around 5 million dollars to sign the rest of the 10 players on team and 2 two way contracts before going over the luxury tax threshold of 150 million dollars.
that math is not viable for an nba team in a small market. so it tells you at a minimum, fred vanvleet, gary trent jr and chris boucher are gone by trade deadline.
It’s tank or make a big trade. We need to pick one or the other.
We are exprcting 20 23 year old players to play like vets. Siakam, FVV and Norm were older rookies when drafted and had limited responsibilities at the start
The Raptors are in tough in a league overflowing with talent. This team needs time and patience to build out. Rushing things will only result in injury.
I think the Raptor's direction should be first to trade Fred. He's been horrible and thinks he is worth more than the max contract being offered. In reality he's been on horrible shooting slumps for basically most the season. If we can get something or someone in return that will make us younger making Boucher, Pascal and Thad are vet core. We can maybe tank for around a Top 10 pick.
Scottie Barnes will get more better
OK I got to say this at some point in time raptor fans are going to have to realize something we are not a championship contender yet and therefore you do not blow up a team that is young that no one thinks will be competing for contention this year you stay Pat You now have your number one you have another all star you have a rookie star that for some particular reason or another will not shoot the ball you have a bench that has to develop but what is most important is your fans need to develop patience and some understanding of the ball game.

Retool around Pascal. Trade everything not named OG and Scottie for the highest bid and tank the rest of the season. Go into next yr with a proper nba constructed team

The problem was the limited abilities of vets, but media blaming the young guys, said they were limited, no shit they aren't the best right now cause they still developing. Media expect they or scottie play like an all stars, but those ”real” all stars doesn't play like one. sigh

The Raps free agent history is horrible so making some trades is the best way to retool. Keep Gary and trade Freddy. My armchair trade proposal is they call the Timberwolves who have underperformed and see if we can do FVV, Boucher or Birch, Flynn, and a two second rounders for DLO and Naz Reid(who puts up good numbers when he gets to play and is a good 3 shooter for a big man)
What is the point of tanking? Pascal, OG, Koloko, Achiuwa, Trent Jr, Fred, boucher were all super late picks, if drafted at all. Barnes is the only exception to that on our team. He is our only lottery pick. Just be patient with these guys. Toronto right now is on pace for a top 10 pick. We aren't getting victor or scoot. Trust our process. If we move anyone its Fred and you can acquire draft capital or some depth. But no point in purposely tanking when we have a reputation of grabbing great players later on in drafts.

What the raptors need to do is trade away Fred and pascal for picks and build around Scottie and OG and in this year’s draft that is a deep draft should draft a real PG like a Scoot Henderson type of player
And also trade away Garry t Jr as swell for picks

Is it that crazy to think that if they add an oubre jr type to be there 6th man they aren’t a legit playoff team? They need a big as well but it’s tough to get both. The starters are more than good enough to be a top 5 team. You have a top 10ish player and 2 borderline all stars. There’s no reason that’s not good enough
