[Mark Jones] I prefer my MVP candidates who impact the defensive end of the floor too. Defense is a skill too. Thanks Ja Morant.

Bro said Ja MorantšŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€

Not even embiid or Giannis.

I have utmost respect for Mark Jones though.

All time sneak Jokic hater. Constantly disses him on live TV in the sneakiest way possible and refuses to say his name. Once even called him Djokovic. Although calling Jokic as Djokovic might be the most respect he’s given him not going to lie.

Wait, is this dude actually saying he has Ja over Jokic for MVP… because of Ja’s defense?

  2. brianpaulandaya

The only thing that’ll stop a 3rd straight Jokic MVP is media and voter fatigue.

  3. ligeiro01

National media members do not watch ball, bro sees one Ja chasedown block and acting like he’s a stopper lol.

  4. spiderpigface

Mark Jones is the best Jokic hater/100 around, put some respect on his name

  5. thekingamw

The object of a game is to win by a minimum of one point.

Offense helps achieve that goal so does defense.

Jokic has his team 1st in the conference second overall.

Bad take take for a regular season award.

Ja isnt even that good on d either

  6. Beans2618

Lol what the fuck Mark Jones?? Please tell me this guy doesnā€™t have an mvp vote

  7. Next-Firefighter-753

Jokic is about to 3peat MVP and certain fans are about to be very salty about it and Iā€™m ready to troll.

  8. ForoaKlanD

Would be the funniest shit ever if Ja somehow won this year’s MVP just cuz Grizzlies get #1 seed or something lol

  9. Is “Ja is good on defense” even a narrative? lol

  10. lets_talk_basketball

I’d understand if he said he respects defense and then chose Giannis or Tatum.. But Ja is a turnstile on D.

  11. RekeHavok

LMAO, the dude watches too much highlights. Ja gets a highlight block and now he’s impacting the defensive end.

  12. Vegetable-Bat-8475

Mark Jones is just a weirdly passive aggressive dude in general

  13. OneLonelyLife

these are the ppl who votes on the awards you guys judge players off of.

    just sayin

  14. EndlessDysthymia

Ngl, Ja is not where I thought he was going with that. This is such a clown ass take. I genuinely donā€™t think these people watch games.

  15. xychosis

ā€¦Ja Morant? For his defense? I like Mark Jones as a commentator but wow thatā€™s a hell of a hot take lol

  16. lemondhead

Well, team defense has improved dramatically, too. Joker is part of that. I believe he has more steals than Giannis, and Giannis is one hell of a defender.

    What a take.

  17. cyb3ryung

he just said candidate, its not like he said thats his MVP. maybe its just how I interpreted it

  18. jfrodriguez1983

Stephen A, Wilbon, and now Mark Jones buying into Ja being a good defender. These highlight blocks really are tricking these national guys that only watch highlights lol.

  19. BigPoppaPuff

Is it really whatever year and people still think Jokic doesnā€™t play good defense?

  20. dadsdadsdad319

I think it was the last Phoenix game but he was insufferable. He kept going on about the suns ā€œputting him in the actionā€ because heā€™s such a slow, fat piece of shitā€¦ and the Nuggs finish with the munder. Also had 21-18-9 on 66.6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666667

  21. Betaateb

Ja tricks casuals every year when he gets one of these, then they think he is actually a good defender lol. Marks Jones is a certified casual.

  22. ChiefKeefIsGoat

I remember last game he called for us he was calling out the wrong coverages while trying to critique joks defense lol i still enjoy him in general though

  23. Yikes lol, NBA media has been fucking extra atrocious the past 2-3 years, I feel like none of these mfs even watch ball anymore.

That includes voters, if a narrative isnā€™t being pushed, we all know damn well that person isnā€™t getting the award/all-nba/defense nod. Shit is getting blatantly bad.

I also feel like ESPN/TNT broadcasts have just been worse.

  24. jorgelongo2

I prefer my MVP candidates who impact the defensive end of the floor too. Defense is a skill too. Thanks James Harden

  25. pinhead-l

Ja isnā€™t even that bad on defense anymore, the Grizzlies are number 1 in defensive rating but the narrative gonna be that this is all about his highlight blocks. If youā€™ve been watching games, Jaā€™s pick and roll defense has improved significantly, heā€™s more active in passing lanes, and heā€™s not letting guys blow by him anymore by keeping his feet in front of him. His PPG has even taken a hit since heā€™s exerting more energy on defense. For a 6ā€™3 PG his defense is basically average.

  26. dadsdadsdad319

I hate to say it but he has one of my favorite Jokic in game replay comments of all time. I think it was in the bubble against the Clips (maybe Jazz) and Jok hits a nonchalant middy over somebody and Mark calls him that guy in the park who shows up smoking a cigarette and doesnā€™ take his hat off

  27. Dom-Izzy

Even Grizzlies fans arenā€™t this delusional. We think heā€™s a slightly below average to average defender!

  28. volantredx

I thought that he was calling out Ja for not playing defense and thus not being an MVP candidate.

  29. gumbowlsoup

All these affirmative action media personalities

  30. Ishynethetruth

I think the only player you can compare to jokic is embiid and gainnis

  31. Overall-Palpitation6

Who actually has Ja as a legit MVP contender right now?

As a Grizzlies fan, I wouldn’t say he’s even top 5 this season.

He’s definitely a much improved defender, but he’s still a fair way back in the MVP pecking order this year.

  32. SocialJusticeGSW

I think biggest struggle in the NBA right now is that they have to replace the face of the franchise with an international player and this is an American league. So once the Curry’s, LBJ’s, KD’s of the league fade out or retire, they want to replace them with Ja Morant, Zion or some other american. The problem is although both Ja and Zion are incredible players, they are nowhere near as effective as Luka, Jokic, Giannis or Embiid.

That is why Mark Jones said Ja instead of Giannis or Embiid.
