Honestly, I don’t think Tatum vs Prime Pierce is an interesting discussion. Tatum has been better than prime Pierce for 2-3 seasons. Bigger and better on both ends. It’s been clear for a while. Tatum made the ECF multiple times at an age Pierce had yet to even make the playoffs. Paul didn’t have success until KG the savior (a true superstar) arrived.
What’s a more interesting discussion is how Tatum stacks up against prime Kobe. People will bring up seasons like 2006 where Kobe averaged 35+ but he did so less efficiently than Tatum, while averaging 41mpg on a 45 win team.
It’s a more interesting discussion than you think. If Tatum had prime Shaq alongside him, he’d already have a few titles. However, because of the demographics of Reddit skewing young, most of the people online grew up idolizing Kobe as a larger than life childhood hero icon who was above criticism, and given Kobe passed away far too soon, he’s risen to sainthood. Any discussion comparing these two honestly will always be heavily biased against Tatum.
