SACRAMENTO, Calif. —‌ Trey Lyles emerged off the bench to score 15 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter to help the Sacramento surge pass the Houston Rockets 135-115 on Jan. 11 at Golden 1 Center. 🎙
In the last 12 minutes, Lyles made all five shots from the field, made 3 of 3 from 3-point territory, and pulled down six rebounds for the Kings (22-18, 13-9 at Golden 1 Center), who trailed 95-94 to start the final 12 minutes of play.🎙

“I think for me, it was just mentally going in there and trying to change the game with my energy. Rebounded defensively and then offensively, trying to get in the mix on the boards,” Lyles said. “I got to the free throw line, got one offensive rebound and we put that back. That kind of got me going. Teammates found me and we were able to continue to share the ball, especially in that fourth quarter and we were able to break it open right there.”

Domantas Sabonis had 25 points, 14 rebounds, and nine assists while De’Aaron Fox added 24 points and nine assists against one turnover in the game. Harrison Barnes and Keegan Murray each had 16 points.

With the win, the Kings were able to reach a 2-2 record on a current 5-game homestretch. Sacramento could finish the homestand five games over .500 should they beat the Rockets again on Jan. 13 at G1C.

“Our guys are just unselfish and it starts with two great players, our two All-Stars,” Kings head coach Mike Brown said. “Yes, our two All-Stars, De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, each with nine assists. Big night from those guys.”

Jalen Green had 26 points, five rebounds, and three assists and Kenyon Martin Jr. contributed 21 points, five rebounds, and three 3-pointers in a reserved role for Houston. Veteran Eric Gordon had 19 points.

The Rockets (10-31, 4-17 on the road), on an eight-game losing streak. Their last win was on Dec. 26, 2022, against the Chicago Bulls (133-118). For the first three quarters, Houston competed well until the fourth quarter.🎙

The game was tied 96-96 until the Kings went on a 29-12 run to bust the game open. Most of all the damage was done by Lyles and Fox, who scored nine points in the last frame. The Kings outscored the Rockets 41-20 in the fourth quarter.

“Obviously, it was the 41 points given up in the fourth quarter. But I do think our shot quality was decent,” said Houston head coach Stephen Silas. “There were some times where we went off and did our own thing. But for the most part, (we) just got to figure out a way to close out these games.”

The Kings play the Houston Rockets again on Friday, Jan. 13 at G1C, the team’s final game of a 5-game stretch at home before visiting the San Antonio Spurs (Jan. 15) and Los Angeles Lakers (Jan. 18).🎙

Kevin Huerter sat out Wednesday’s game for the Kings due to a non-COVID illness.🎙
