Vanvleet could be a good defending two guard that can shoot alongside Kelle. Not that upset by this.

As a FA signing im not too mad about this just hope its a 2-3 year contract

I don’t believe these rumors. The agents of these athletes leak team names to drive up the price. That’s all this is.

Unless the magic are willing to pay, he’s going to want something closer to 30 million next contract. He ll end up as a rental.

  5. HeadlessShinobi

This dude has to be one of the worst all-stars in recent memory.

    FVV Shooting splits this season!!!!:
    FG%-38
    3P%-33
    TS-53%

It feels like most Magic fans haven’t been paying attention to FVV’s season this year, because they keep saying he can shoot. It’s a contract year for him, and he’s shooting abysmally. This would be a huge risk of a signing given how much money he would want, and I have also been keeping up with Toronto a little this season and FVV is a guy who is really good at politics with the media and wants his touches on the court.

Long story short, I do not think this would be a good signing for us and I hope this is just a rumor from his agent to generate interest. We would be better using our current guard assets to trade for someone, or just sign a shooter. I don’t think we need another ball dominant playmaker and his defense is not enough of an upgrade over our current guards except Anthony, but he wouldn’t be taking Anthony’s spot. Really really do not want us to sign him. Especially not for the 30+ mil he’s gonna want.

  7. Some thoughts

    The Good:

    * Veteran who has a ring and is coming from a good organization
    * Historically been a good shooter – 37.5% from 3 in his career
    * Historically been a good defender – has been crushing advanced metrics and leading like literally every hustle stat for a few seasons
    * Can play on and off the ball
    * Tough and generally a great culture guy

    The Bad:

    * [He has quite literally the 2nd worst FG% in the league at 37.6%](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask?q=worst+fg%25+by+a+player+this+season)
    * His shot has abandoned him this season in a big way – 32.8% from 3
    * [His defense has really fallen off this season](https://www.reddit.com/r/torontoraptors/comments/10c7sj1/gary_trent_watching_fred_vanvleet_go_unpunished/)
    * His play has turned most of the Raptor’s fanbase against him who treat him like ours treats Bamba
    * [He has played the 2nd most MPG since 2019-20 at 36.8/game, and has struggled with injuries his whole career – I worry about the mileage](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/most-minutes-per-game-by-a-player-over-the-last-4-seasons)
    * (Sidenote: People never talk about Toronto players having inflated counting stats because they simply play more minutes than everyone else)
    * He’s 6’1

I can definitely see him coming back to form in Orlando with less insane minutes and not playing in Nurse’s balls-to-walls defensive schemes, but at the same time it feels like his body is breaking down and this is the beginning of the end for him.

We’ve dealt with enough injuries that I *really* don’t want to be the team left holding the bag.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Wouldn’t necessarily hate it but I find it hard to believe Shams is getting this information from the team.

I literally do not buy this at all. This goes counter to EVERYTHING the current FO has valued. He has no size. He is not in the same timeline as our core. His contract no where close to matches his production. Everything about him screams falling off hard as age and heavy minutes catches up to him.

If they said we were trying to hunt a way to trade or sign GTJ I would believe it.

  10. banchero98

I don’t understand people who don’t want him. If he doesn’t fit us we can easily trade him. He is still young and he has an All Star participation and Ring on his cv. We hadn’t allstar guard since Jameer.

  11. rustystatic

If it’s true, it potentially shows us as buyers for the first time in Weltman’s stint. Which can be considered positive, we are finally looking forward to compete and not just gain assets.

However, unless the value is really low I can’t see this trade happening. Because as others have said it either ends being a rental or worse, we heavily overpay when there will likely be better options in the market for that money.

  12. Technical-Log4887

Easy starting lineup.. Kelle, Suggs, WCJ, Franz, Banchero. With Anthony as number 6. No need for this guy.

  13. Futbolmirapol

The Magic FO are always locked airtight, especially with rumors. Highly doubt Shams was able to infiltrate the FO.

  14. dougie_fresh121

Free agency? Sure, just don’t overpay.

Trade for him? No chance at the current asking price. Maybe if we can flip Bamba and a second for him.

  15. ReedWilliams12

Yeah I like Fred and think he still has another good year or two left, but undersized guards tend to not do well after 30.

  16. gmbaker44

Our FO leaks nothing. This is all his agent trying to make news for his client.

  17. shaqsabutthead

Trade flotsam for him, see if he can get back into form in a new environment for a playoff push. If he doesn’t let him walk.

  18. Iamadissapointment4

Guys he’s not going to command 30mil plus after this season the absolute most he could get is 25 and that seems to be pushing it rn. Id expect a 65/3 deal with a team option on the 3rd year.
