One thing I will say in defense of Poeltl/traditional bigs, is that with Embiid/Jokic in the fold, I think it’s necessary to have somebody with size who you feel can safely guard them 1v1 without sending help.

There’s no rest for Giannis, Embiid or even Bam if we have this guy on our bench lol

Anyone able to TLDR? I don’t have the Athletic

The fact that we can’t trade Gallinari to the Spurs since they waived him makes me think this trade won’t happen. Sure we can get a third team, but it’s tricky.

Brad has seemed to value guys under contract/giving extensions, so I don’t think he’d use many more assets than Gallinari (and maybe Pritchard) for a rental.

It depends how much we have to give up for him. Most I would give is Pritchard or/and Kornet and a first rounder.

Imagine having Smart Jaylen Jayson Horford and Rob as a starting 5 and White Brogdon Hauser Grant and Poeltl as the next 5. League fucked.

We never know what Brad is going to do, we’ve never guessed it. I’m sure one or two mentioned something, but most of us didn’t see the Al for Kemba, Richardson for White, and the package for Brogdon. I believe the smoke but I don’t believe it’s Poeltl.

Makes sense. I like the McDaniels idea.

Tbh the fact that Poetl is continuously mentioned in articles linking him to us via trade is exactly why I don’t see it happening.

Besides the fact that we have a more glaring need for backup wing, I just don’t think this matches with how Brad or the Spurs do deals.

Our front office doesn’t seem to leak info, neither do the spurs. Derrick White was an under the radar trade, same as Brogdon. If we were really close to a deal whatsoever than it would just happen, not 20 articles from every sports journalism outlet discussing the potential.

Poeltl would be a good addition but the cost is too high. Two firsts for a rental is not good value. I don’t see a way in which they could keep Grant and Poeltl in the offseason. I’d rather have Grant long term.

I guess I don’t really see how we give him consistent minutes unless it’s a game we rest Horford or Rob gets hurt. In the playoffs if they’re both healthy, who’s minutes are we cutting to play Poetl? I’d rather get another wing who can actually consistently play

If you want to put pressure on the league to give up more assets to acquire Poeltl, I would say getting the word out their that the current #1 team is interested probably helps your case. These articles are always questionable because any competent front office is going to do the due diligence on all available players. It’s like the KD situation. Did Brad check on what the price was? Yes. Did the Nets try and use that as leverage to scare the rest of the league? Yes.

I have no doubt we’ve inquired about Poeltl because Brad is one of the best GMs in the league and in that same sense I trust whatever he’s going to do. I however do not trust The Atlantic or any narrative being pushed by the media around trade talks. The medias job is to sell you advertisements, not provide factual information (like the used to do more of).

Totally worth 2 late round firsts for a huge boost in odds of raising banner 18 this year. Unfortunately it’s more likely than not that Rob will get hurt again.

Is this trade gonna happen or not? Been hearing about it for like 2 months— either do it or stfu

i know i will probably get flamed for this and deservedly so because he won us a game 7 last year and is a great player, but a straight 1 for 1 s&t of grant for poeltl in the offseason wouldn’t be that awful. only if that is the direction the team wants to take though. i would be perfectly happy with a 17m a year grant on the roster next year.

  16. The spurs are never getting 2 FRPs from anyone. They’re just listing raptors and us to get leverage.
