> Ben Simmons partnered with non-profit Operation Warm to gift new winter coats to over 2,600 children through his annual Ben Simmons Coat Giveback, serving six schools and three community groups in New York.

It’s good to see Ben giving back to the community and being able to do so publicly. Unfortunately, he did not have that luxury in Philadelphia, as he was forced to [donate anonymously](https://www.smh.com.au/sport/from-our-greatest-basketball-export-to-us-sporting-pariah-can-simmons-bounce-back-20220726-p5b4mm.html) for fear the kids would reject his offerings like those who turned down his scholarship.

Gives our 2600 coats but doesn’t want to take even 1 jumper

  2. black_squid98

Having to donate anonymously is pretty sad tbh

  3. TatumIsntASuperstar

Dude was so bad in Philly he had to anonymously donate jackets 😂

  4. Dazzling-Reason-5140

Jerker of the Year goes to any kids who rejected the coats 👑

  5. kotakice

Simmons has a good heart but not a good brain on the court lol

  6. thatcuntcat

Bunch of weirdos in here as always. Good on ben, its so sad he had to go anonymous for it in Philly. I guess the deserving kids still got it in the end.

  7. Him giving back deserves praise either way, anonymously or not. It’s so stupid that kids are considering rejecting.

  8. SportsLaughs

Very cool and extremely useful. And that’s a lotta coats.

  9. paddiction

Ben Simmons has always been extremely charitable. Sad to see he’s got so many haters.

Omg how many times is this going to be posted, such old news

Edit: Sorry I misread the post and thought it was only about the anonymous gifting story from last year that OP mentioned

  11. kooltogo

That’s good to hear. I just can’t get over the fact that it looks like he was photoshopped outside

  12. angel2timez

I wish it was one of those cases where it depends on how many points he scores

  13. Respect 🫡! Even though he’s the same player he was, it still warms my heart hearing the story

  14. NotFakeJacob

Ben Simmons faked a mental illness to get out of playing basketball while making millions on vacation.

  15. MostlyMellow123

Hopefully they don’t let him design the coats

  16. harden4mvp13

Did I read that right? Some kids turned down a scholarship because it was coming from Ben Simmons??

  17. WhereDaHinkieFlair

Good for him. I still don’t like how he quit on my favorite team, but this is nice of him.

  18. KarlAnth0nyTowns

he should be donating to philadelphians for haven’t to watch his sorry ass cost us a conference finals trip 😠

  19. Dymatizeee

What kind of idiotic kid would turn down a scholarship lmao

  20. hookeduponscifi

If i ever had that much and I had to give it to the needy, God be my witness I’ll donate it anonymously and wouldn’t let anyone else know about it. These multi millionaires don’t do it to inspire others but for PR reasons.

  21. aimreallyhigh

Hope there is some context missing because it would be incredibly stupid to turn down a scholarship just because it was from Simmons.

Also, for as much hate as he gets he is donating and helping folks out. And he probably does so more than most guys in the league.

  22. uwcclanman2222

Why did he take the coats in the first place?

  23. bambooshoeq

how many more times is this gonna get posted? I´ve read this exact announcment like 10 times on this sub in the last few months

  24. WatashiWaWado

Hold up, students turned down SCHOLARSHIPS just cause they came from Ben ? That’s some clownish behavior

  25. Obviously, it’s a good thing to do…donating coats.

That said…enough of using the “poor Ben” narrative. He isn’t/wasn’t mistreated or abused.

He (like many pampered and overindulged young men) needs to learn how to take accountability for his shortcomings and move forward from there.

No one demands perfection in this life, but accountability and (occasional) self-reflection should be a minimum bar

  26. VoidMageZero

This is awesome, good guy Ben 10!! 😎

  27. Griffbro

Genuinely asking, does anyone have any follow up about the kids that apparently turned down scholarships because his name was attached to it? I can’t find anything other than the initial story that was revealed by his sister.

  28. lopodo777

This and the 3rd graders video I saw on Twitter doesnt give me any hope tbh

Edit: Why would anyone do that to Hen smh

  29. imperialmoose

Simmons knows a thing or two about being cold.

  30. ApoliticalAth3ist

Let’s not pretend like this was a regular thing or even proven to actually have happened. It supposedly happened *one* time after he quit on the team. Ben was embraced in Philly prior to the Hawks series

  31. ApoliticalAth3ist

This didn’t actually happen but ppl care more about their jokes than the truth

  32. oldskoolchevy

Are we just gonna repost this every month? Lol

  33. oldskoolchevy

I’ll say this: it was clearly a piece intended to paint Ben in a good light after some bad publicity last year. But I’m doing so, they essentially villainized poor inner city families. The “scholarships” are also for 1k a piece and often interfere with other potential scholarships.

Look, I don’t think Ben is a bad guy by any means. But pit him against the sixers organization and players, not underprivileged kids. Nasty work by the author.

Edit: also, the authors source is Ben’s sister. Not really a fair gauge on reality when only providing one POV.
