Jaylen Brown returning? Payton Pritchard rumors, and odds Boston Celtics make a trade

Jaylen Brown showed up at Celtics practice on Wednesday and looked like he was close to returning. Plus, there rumors that the Golden State Warriors are poking around about Payton Pritchard. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal gets into those stories and then dives into the mailbag for questions about the odds the Celtics make a move, the biggest challenges the Celtics will face in the NBA, looking for Rob more on lobs, and comparing Grant Williams and Glen Davis. Also, a word on Draymond Green’s accusations that Celtics fans used racial slurs against him during the NBA Finals.

  1. Agree. JB has a tendency to become a blackhole. Thats good if he keeps on making them shots. But it drains the life out of the role players especially if they aint even touchin the ball on consecutive posessions. Them they get lazy on D because of that..

  2. Good post as always John and as a POC I appreciate your final words about the racism. C's fans need to show class! (I think the majority do show class, but those few outliers…)

  3. I hope they make a move. At the very least, salary dump justin jackson like they did with vonleh to open up a 2nd spot for a buyout market pickup.

My ideal deal structure for the celtics this trade season is to take a player into the TPE and we send back jackson and a couple of 2nd rounders. Then ideal targets would be a big wing and/or a mobile big like naz reid, pj washington, kenrich williams, etc.

  4. Nice job speaking to an important issue. Great job focusing on the solution. I would like nothing more than to never have another NBA player hear that shit in Boston (or anywhere else) ever again.

  5. CF also, along with Larry, actually was known as a 3-point shooter on those teams–back long before it was so cool. Thought he was a good coach too–loved that guy.

  6. I would offer, anecdotally, that Rob's progressive drop in blocking percentage is akin to the RFer in baseball with the canon arm who throws out fewer runners each year–over time, fewer shooters are willing to challenge him. To me, the floor chart of WHERE opponents are shooting with him on vs. off is a better barometer of his impact than raw block #s.
