Tatum and Brown combined for 72 points and 22 rebounds, but Jaylen Brown’s 41 came about as perfectly as you can expect from him. Al Horford loved how Brown attacked, and so did John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal. John explains why Brown’s mindset was right from the beginning and how his first 3 quarters combined with Tatum’s 4th to close out a good game against a tough Pelicans team that got a big performance from CJ McCollum. But even though those guys had a great night (and got 20 from Malcolm Brogdon), John says this was actually a great team win.

First listen, first comment. Good Job Karalis. Go Celtics!
Can't wait to see tonight's show against Nets. Thanks to John for bringing me positive mood this morning with a nice talk 😊 Really enjoy watching Celtics struggle and grow every game
You could say brown closed the door and Tatum locked it
How’s that for efficiency!?Jaylen was unreal tonight! What impressed me most was the mixed bag of shots he put in. Spinning layups, midrange fades, deep threes-they had NO answer for him. And despite the fact I’m not thrilled about giving up 114 to a NO team missing 90% of it’s stars, we were without Rob & Smart who obviously anchor the defense-a win is a win. Brogdon just continues to shine off the bench and I liked our game plan overall-you knew McCollum was going to get his but they didn’t let Valanciunas or anyone else really get off. Now let’s SQUASH the Nets like the bugs they are. Thanks John🙏🏻☘️🔒
Jaylen tweaked his groin. Hope he plays tonight.
I heard Jaylen tweaked his groin right at the end of the game.😕
Minute 19 “Jaylen ushered them out, and Jayson closed the door.”
If the Celtics play like this, they’re winning a chip. No other team really has two guys than can DOMINATE a quarter each. Jb drops 18 in the third and Tatum goes 14 in the fourth. Seamless handoff between the two
Great game…love eating my own words…lets gooo. Brown looked amazing.. thats what we need every game,, energy nd will to win..knowing they r the better team.
you always ask them the best questions John! I love it!
This game reflect we need urgent other piece from the bench.
Well done, John. Perfect game assessment. The Nets have Durant out, but will have fresher legs. I expect a challenging win.
Thank you for telling me about Locked On Patriots.
But then after the game he just had to mention the groin. N. Couldn't just let us be happy for a night lol
Brogdon played amazing as well. He’s so good at attacking
Jaylen closed the door and Tatum locked it
Jaylen was and is incredible. We need to get him on an all-nba team.
Great game! We were fortunate NOT to have to deal with BI and Zion but any W is great, in the end. I love to see Kornet getting mins. Give me a team full of guys giving honest, no-ego effort, and I'm happy win or lose. He affects the game, like Rob, in ways that don't factor into stat sheets. He sets great screens, rolls with energy, and keeps the other teams honest with his effort on the boards and in the paint. They alter their shots, even when he doesn't get the block, and this is just as good. 3-man Big rotation, with Luke, is an exciting prospect to me. Start with Horford/Williams and then work in the Luke mins to stagger (and Blake). Once we get off the "Bogey Train" of sub-par shooting, we'll be back to business as usual though a sneaky 8-2 in our last 10 is pretty darn good.
John, do you think Hauser might still be a year away from being able to really contribute for this team in the playoffs and we need to find a quick fix for this year?I know you and Keith talked about it on yesterdays show but it was kind of glaring last night. I'll tell you, watching Josh Richardson in that Spurs game really made me think "He is exactly what our bench unit needs." Which is funny for the reasons everyone knows.
7uice ! ☘☘☘☘☘☘☘
To start the first and third, NO was going hard and it seemed to stifle us a little but not JB. He kept counter punching and we dug ourselves out of both of those quarters. He looked fearless.
Who's rapping in the intro?
Brodon getting more and more comfortable taking control
I’ve been impressed with Grant’s decision making these last few games. His passing is crisp, his defense is tenacious and he showing an array of offense with post play, floaters, and quick release threes, but none of it looks forced. He’s consistently finding where he can impact the game.
Im going to get your book and then try to find you for an autograph ! I promise you ! An Inspiration ! Thank you so much for this content every morning #JB4ALLNBA
I think the key to the Celtics going all the way is free throws. If JB, JT, Brogdon etc get to the line more they get more points at a higher percentage (at least 80% from the foul line vs. 40% from the field) plus after a made freethrow the celtics can set their 1/2 court defense.
The elephant in the room is Marcus Smart.
His only true value to this team is averaging 7 assist per game?🤣
That's the "hair painters" primary defense.
He is a late game offensive liability that no longer defends at an elite level.
And strangely, Jaylen Brown has had his 4 best games when Smart's out.
Marcus Smart is extremely overrated and was horrible in the NBA finals!
He's the worst starting point guard of any of the contending teams in the Eastern Conference!
JB is a beast, and he’s not even at prime yet
You are S tier, John Karalis
great comeback performance by JB, he was a little off the previous game (19pts 0-7 from 3)
THANK YOU JOHN! Those clowns around the town (you know the report I'm talking about!) try to justify criticizing JB for no assists and his offensive approach by saying they're just being objective and looking at sustainability for playoffs – no you birds, you're entirely unnecessarily focusing on a false narrative that he can't pass/facilitate and knocking his defense (fair this year – not up to his level) on a night where he was PERFECT offensively, and oh by the way we'd be bowing down if he played exactly like this throughout playoffs. When the man is on fire, it's on others to facilitate, especially since it's not even an emphasis for him in this offense!! Rant over.
It's crazy to me that 3 players scored 92 of the Celtics 125 points. Brad Stevens must wake up laughing thinking about how little he gave up to get Malcolm Brogdon.
