To steal from Bill Simmons, I think he’s a “Good stats, bad team” guy. Never gonna be a 1 or 2 on a championship level team, but will put up big stats on a mediocre team or find a role as a third option on better team.

The reality is Zach is a good player. The problem is the Bulls haven’t had meaningful success since he’s been here. If the Bulls were in the playoffs every year, or showed progress (actually winning a playoff series) then he wouldn’t get as much hate. The hate is amplified this year because the team is mediocre, which is the worst you can be in sports.

I know everyone thinks we’re supposed to wait until Zach posts a stinker to hate but….
The stats are great, he has a lot of good games. But he makes terrible decisions and plays bad defense. Given the team’s current situation, this type of player on this contract is such a massive hindrance to the (lack of) process moving forward. “Empty stats” is a rude and very flawed term, but he’s one of the closest players in the league to fitting that description.

People tend to forget he was still nursing an injury from last year coming into the season. He said himself he didn’t get hardly any offseason work in and he was essentially just getting back into the flow of the game while playing. People hate on this man wayyyy too much.

Zach’s burst is back, he looked a bit slow(for what we are used to) early in the season, now he’s blowing by people, beating them with his first step like we are used to.
