I think we’ve all known since his rookie year that he has all-defensive team potential, but the longer this season goes on, the more I’m beginning to believe this guy has legitimate DPOY potential.
The metrics are all there to back it up. Elite matchup difficulty, on-ball defense, screen navigation, rim protection, off-ball defense. He goes out there and makes life hell for their opponents best players 1-4. Only thing standing in the way of that potential is foul trouble.
He’s gonna be the best wing defender in basketball by the time he’s 24.

This video must make refs absolutely furious. All the times he gets right up in the ball handler’s face and doesn’t give him a clear lane to the basket. Or worse yet, closely contests a jump shot instead of a nice safe 8 foot buffer.

I think we can all agree that the trade for Rudy isn’t looking all that great in hindsight, mainly because of how many picks we gave up, but I’m confident in saying it was better to give up the extra picks over giving up McDaniels. People would’ve been way more pissed if that happened.
