    RIP CITY! I met him when I was young and he was a delight. My friend and I felt like we were friends with him after that, but of course he was just very personable and kind.

    He gave us an identity that will never be forgotten. I will miss him, but am super grateful he was able to live a good life.

    RIP CITY! What an amazing soul, had the chance to be in his presence for about 30 seconds one day when the Blazers were putting in a little practice at U of Portland. Was just a student security guard, he was doing a player interview or something with a small entourage of studio folks. But he, out of all the people in the small entourage took a moment to say “Hi” shake my hand and, with that incredible grin say “thanks for not letting any other riff raff get in here!” And with a wink and a nod he disappeared into one of the many hallways. As a kid, I was dumbstruck, but that sticks with me to this day – kindness and professionalism lead the way.

    “Lickety brindle up the middle!”, “Porter, from the Burnside bridge… For THREE!!”, “Kersey, on the baseline, step back… RIP CITY, and the Blazers take the lead!”, “Porter, to Drexler flying down the lane and just sent Malone flying!!”, I could go on and on, I still hear it when I sleep, decades later.

    RiP to the Mayor of RIP CITY!
