The defensive struggles are due to missed shots and more need for transition defense. Transition defense requires significantly more energy. This along with lack of depth means that by mid 4th quarter the team is gassed and can’t defend anything.
Start knocking down shots more regularly and these defensive issues will start to resolve themselves.

It doesn’t help when 6’ 1.5” Devonte is playing alongside 6’ 0.25” Jose, and none of the guys box out. Giving up offensive rebounds has killed the Pelicans in the last few weeks.

Yes, everyone knows Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram are all-world defenders with mediocre offensive skills.

Combination of things. Herb missing games, bad line-ups where Devonte/Hayes allow them to go on runs, and some awful match ups for JV.
I also get the feeling there’s something wrong with team chemistry lately, which definitely impacts on defensive unity and coordination. Not sure what it is, but these guys are definitely getting in their own heads about the losing. May also be some frustration around incessant star player injuries while everyone else soldiers on.

Because Willie’s short lineups are jeopardizing the team. Jose and Tae cannot play alongside each other without giving up considerable size and rebounding. Jose has his strengths, but the taller guards see him as BBQ chicken when he’s guarding them. I don’t even need to talk about Tae. IDK why he’s not all in on Dyson. Willie took him out in the closing minutes of the magic game and the team suffered from a lack of playmaking.
