A counterpoint to your counterpoint: the only team in that time who has performed worse in the playoffs is Utah. All that winning with little to show for it.

  2. richlynnwatson

The owner didn’t shoot a single one of those shots

  3. shoebox_x

this is the issue though, we got good draft picks in Dirk and Luka and those guys enough will win you games. The fact that we weren’t able to assemble consistently great squads around them is sign of bad ownership, though.

Counter: I would take more championships over a good winning record.

The lakers have a worse winning record but have 6 rings in that time period.

I would take that over the one ring we got.

  5. Dirk was good enough to win 3 he got one from sheer will and not a great team surrounding him. Same story is developing with Luka.

  6. NoWayNotThisAgain

Doesn’t matter. The goth kids are still going to say “everything sucks and I hate it here”.

  7. Master-Mycologist747

Mark Cuban isn’t the worst owner in sports but mans he’s been incompetent throughout the years. This starts from bad roster management to Sexual Harassment scandals to Front office chaos.

  8. dethegreat

Your counterpoint is irrelevant. But thanks for showing that we had great coaches and a couple of all world talents.

This is a good point. To all those saying Championships should be the measure as opposed to team record, we should examine if there is a correlation between teams with the most championships in that span, and teams that are voted as favored destinations by players.

If players have a base line bias towards the teams that had more championships, then it is the result of easier free agent signing by destination cities than any action taken by ownership or front office.

Cuban is a bottom 5 nba owner imo. In sports I dunno geez…Kinda like with jerry Jones its kinda pointless to bitch about. They aint changing or leaving

  11. 10 yrs without winning a round in the playoffs

  12. qotsabama

We were very successful under Dirk, made two finals appearances. However I’d argue there was always more meat on the bone especially given we had Dirk. While I’m not saying we should’ve won more rings, I do think we should’ve made the finals more under him and certainly overall had more playoff success. These limited rosters go back over the entire tenure of Dirk, there was definitely more upside we never reached, which is a shame.

The Spurs were so annoyingly good in their heyday…

  14. Active_Page_3886

Yeah it’s amazing what you can do over 20 years with a generational talent willing to take massive payouts so you can sign Chandler Parsons and Wes Matthews

  15. nickthearchaeologist

What’s really strange is seeing the Spurs, Heat, Celtics, and Lakers on here that have had so much success in both the post and the regular season.

But the Jazz and Mavs? Not near as much, and they’re top 5 in the 21st century in terms of winning teams. It’s weird ain’t it?

  16. RedMansGr33d

I commend you for putting a foot in the hornet’s nest that is the section of this fanbase that irrationally hate Cuban. Not for the weak of heart lol.

  17. Thisdoessuck

You can hate everything about Cuban but you’re a lunatic if you think he’s the worst owner in sports

  18. LemmingPractice

How much credit do you give him for getting Dirk and Luka? Those numbers are basically entirely due to those two players (primarily Dirk).

  19. I didn’t see the worst comment, but that is easy to debunk. He’s not even the worst sport owner in the Dallas area. JJ is infinitely worse.

  20. nvesting

It’s about what have you done for me lately. Let’s not live in the past. Cuban sucks.

  21. EvryArtstIsACannibal

it’s amazing how the fan base forgets (or just wasn’t alive to see) just how active the mavs were before the last cba in 2012. They would always be involved in big trades at the trade deadline. It was pretty much assured the mavs would pull off some big trade to try to get good players here. The last cba really made things harder for teams to pull off those big trades.

  22. logster2001

These comments really want to find any way to hate on Cuban 🤣🤣

  23. ShassaFrassa

    Counter-counter point: Dirk

I’m not saying Mark is the worst owner. He’s not even a “bad” owner, relatively speaking… there are much, much worse owners out there. But what’s not seen is how many times the Mavs FO shots themselves in the foot when they had Dirk so you can understand the apprehension of today’s Mavs fans seeing history repeat itself with Luka… except Luka isn’t gonna be as patient and generous as Dirk.

  24. How many titles? How many teams blown up after said titles? How much $ spent in luxury tax? How many free agent misses? How many internal sexual assault scandals half-ass handled? The list goes on and on

  25. youre going to be absolutely floored when you see what the winning percentage was of the clippers in the years leading up to donald sterling getting removed, or the suns leading up to robert sarver getting removed. turns out, you can be a bad owner even if the team is good at basketball! what a concept!

  26. bones-n-hugs

Man I tried telling people on here that this organization over the past 20 years has been damn successful. Only 10-11 teams have won a championship since then, and were one of them. 2 finals appearances in that time. Yes Donnie left the finances Fucked up, and the swing and miss from the KP trade set us back a few years. But people on this sub that talk about this team as if they are comparable to the Orlando magic, Detroit pistons, Washington Wizards, etc are just spoiled and entitled fans (as if our history with winning and success the past 20 years has given some people 🧐🧐).

  27. i dont think anyone could question his will to win until post 2011.

after that its been pretty iffy. He made a few moves that didnt work and you cant doubt him for trying, but hes had a few trades that hamstrung the franchise and really were stretches at best.

the sex scandal thing took a lot of his shine for me as well. I mean no ones perfect but man he really just let that shit slide because it was his homies. You gotta be better than that, if for only public image, these days and he knew about the whole thing. Made him seem weak and slimy to me

  28. Counterpoint, I am a Kings fan screaming in playoff drought.

  29. thebranbran

Bulls fan here. I would take Mark Cuban as an owner any day. Beats James Dolan, Robert Sarver or if we branch out to other sports, The Ricketts (still riding the curtails of that one World Series though) and Dan Snyder.

Could be worse. Also wanted to show some Dirk and Luka love. That 2010-11 championship was the best chip in the last 20 years imo.

  30. RoyTarpleysGhost

This is dumb as hell. No one was complaining about Cuban when he was a good owner. He could have won 10 titles and still be a shitty owner in 2023.

This is like being a proud Cowboys fan because they won titles in the 90s.

  31. MucusShotSwaGGins

Dirk can’t barely walk normally after all that carrying he was doing through years.

  32. jeswanders

There’s a cowboys joke in here somewhere
