Shoutout to Dok with 4 points in 53 seconds of playing time. 76.32 points per 36.

Awful game. JC absolute trash tonight. Lauri needs to start finding more looks against hard defense too. Sexton was good. Rudy MF Gay was good, except when he made Hardy blow his gasket.

  3. We really looked like a proper lottery team out there tonight. Traffic cones on defense, ridiculous turnovers, and awkward shooting and movement on offense. What a mess of a game.

From a Blazers fan, GG. Rooting for you guys.

  5. GilgameDistance

Well Dame still puts on a hell of a show.

  6. GilgameDistance

So what the hell happened after a pretty damn good first quarter?

Dame went thermonuclear and you can’t do a whole lot about that.

What you CAN do something about is when Dame went quiet early in the fourth and the Blazers had a bunch of unforced errors and the Jazz couldn’t capitalize at all, then proceeded to give up three wide open dunks. That’s gotta be better.

Sexton had a really nice game though, so there’s one positive.

Hardy benching Kessler the entire 4th is why the game went Blazers’ way down the stretch, cuz they were getting literally anything they wanted at the rim with none rim protection.

Kessler must have done something to piss off Hardy or this shit doesn’t make any sense.

I don’t really care if we don’t look to improve before the trade deadline but we need to find defense from somewhere these types of performances take something out of you.

Just for the rosters mental health I would like to have more than 1 option at staying in games

Right now it’s our offense is better than yours or we lose.

Also why not play ochai more? Why not try Naw on dame? Why not blitz dame before he has 50…

You just have to find a way to make it harder than that.

  10. To all those saying we played bad… We really didn’t, numbers wise at least. 47/90 from the floor for 52%, 20/41 from 3 for 48%. Defense and turnovers is of course another story, but still.

Any other night we win this game. It was just Dame’s turn for a legendary game.

We play Luka twice in the next 5. I’m a little worried what he’s gonna do to this defense.

    GAME NOTES:

Holy hell what a game for Dame. We could not stop him no matter what we tried. Just unreal. 60 points and it looked effortless. Even when we blitzed him or doubled him, he still found a clear path to the hoop.

That leads me to my first point, defense was nonexistant tonight. First quarter we did really good limiting them on the perimeter, 16 of their 19 first quarter points were in the paint, but after that it became a monstrous shootout. We allowed a lot of 3’s the second and third quarters, and the fourth quarter they walked all over us inside. Important note, Kessler didn’t play in the 4th, and that’s where we just couldn’t catch up. They were scoring everything and we had no interior defense.

We shot the ball really well tonight. 51/48/77 isn’t a bad shooting night, especially putting up 117 points. Our loss came strictly from a lack of defense PERIOD.

Lauri Markkanen didn’t shoot his best game, but he was still able to get to the line 8 times. He wasn’t a factor on offense in my opinion, and Jerami Grant played great defense on him making it really tough on him to get to his spots.

Rebounding was an issue tonight too. Kessler, Conley, Beasley, and Vando led the team with 5 a piece. We were active on the offensive glass, but defensively Eubanks and surprisingly Lillard ate us alive.

THT was very polarizing in my opinion tonight. He had a stretch in the second where he had a great pass to Vando who got blocked, then on the very next possession he lazily threw a lobbed cross court pass that was easily intercepted. He fouled in transition, but the next play after that he navigates a pick n roll and smoothly and slowly hit a nice floater. I just couldn’t understand his playstyle tonight. He would do 2 good things but then 1 bad thing.

Sexton came in with a fire this game. He had some bad turnovers on drives in the fourth, but when he played he was lighting a fire. 8-11 shooting 3-3 from 3 for 19 points. He hit all 3 of his 3’s in the first where he came in and helped build a 12 point first quarter lead.

Rudy Gay played his best game offensively for us this season. He didn’t miss a shot, was 3-3 from 3, 4-4 from the field, and finished with 11/2/2. Defensively it was a different story though, but nobody on the Jazz played too well on that end.

Beasley couldn’t find his shot. 3-10 and 3-9 from 3. Kinda funny he’s being campaigned for the 3 point contest with him being in a major slump, but he generally has been a sniper. It has just been the last month where he has been dreadful.

Conley was great, although he didn’t shoot a ton, he had 10 assists and 2 steals. 3 turnovers isn’t too bad, but still higher than his usual mark

I’m not too sure why Kessler didn’t play the fourth. I will admit I missed part of the third quarter, but it didn’t look like he was injured or was even being outplayed. Vando at the 5 allowed for more offensive flexibility, but imo we didn’t need more offense. We needed defense in the fourth badly. I know he was torched the second quarter with drop coverage allowing Dame to ignite from 3, but I don’t think that’s necessarily on Kessler. I get how Vando is a more versatile 5, but especially that 4th quarter we desperately needed interior defense and Vando wasn’t providing that. I genuinely don’t know why Hardy didn’t try him once more in the fourth.

I don’t want to put blame on Hardy because he is a first year head coach, and I don’t want to put blame on Kessler for being a great rookie when nobody thought he would be at this level right now, but some blame has to go to each of those. I don’t know if it was Hardy telling Kessler to stay down and drop on screens especially that second quarter where the Blazers scored 47, or if it was Kessler going against the gameplan, but something had to have happened where Hardy didn’t feel comfortable going back to Kessler to try to stop the interior slamming that was happening by Dame and co.

Agbaji didn’t play too well either, but that’s just rookie growing pains. I would like to see him more active on offense rather than sitting in a corner. He did have some good tap out rebounds though.

Clarkson also didn’t have the best shooting night, and was a team low -19 in the +/-. 7-18 shooting tonight, and he had 4 turnovers himself.

The biggest flaws this team has is perimeter defense, and turnovers. We cannot for the life of us stop anybody on any given night, and we give the opposing team too many free points by lazily turning the ball over. We had 13 tonight which isn’t the worst, but in a game where we couldn’t stop the Blazers, we needed all the possessions we could get.

We outshot the Blazers from the perimeter, had more assists than they had, but ultimately Dame showed why he is one of the best players in the league. We had no answer for him tonight, and in a game where we didn’t have a strong go-to offensively, it came down to turnovers and defensive effort. I can’t imagine Will Hardy is happy with our defensive effort tonight. While we did have some highlight blocks on Eubanks and Grant, we had triple the amount of lowlights where we wouldn’t rotate, or we’d over commit and allow a clear path to the hoop.

25-26 bitches. Not too happy with the team’s effort tonight, but if we keep in mind our expectations we have for this team and the end goal, tonight’s result wasn’t too bad.

  13. Sal_Ammoniac

I thought they were defending exceptionally well in the beginning of the game, like to the tune of “wow, they have it all together”.

Then, it all came tumbling down.

    🙁

  14. LaKal-El

Like I’ve said before, if you’re a superstar or wanting to be a superstar, just play the Utah Jazz you’re gonna get your career high or season-high.

  15. There have been 15 games of 60+ points the last 5 years. Dame has 4 of them.

  16. guyincognito_17

I don’t know about you guys but I’m getting the feeling this Damian Lillard fellow can play basketball.

  17. We didn’t even play that badly (until the fourth), Lillard was just that guy.

Refs were also a little annoying, but even they couldn’t have helped us against Dame’s shooting.

  18. BuddhistMonk72

Losses are much more fun while intoxicated. Excited to see what we do at the deadline

  19. Contending? Too soon.

Tanking? For uncreative shits that don’t have a billion picks already and the GOAT fleecer in charge.

A .500 record? *That* takes finesse and skill.

  20. rudy gay: shoots a 3

    me: NO… oh. k.

    rudy gay: block

  21. Diligent_Ad8282

Defense, defense, defense. Glaring weakness all season. Is it more about the roster or effort/coaching?

  22. This game finally convinced me that Clarkson should be moved now that there is probably some value to be had. He seems to be getting worse with the heroball as the season progresses, and in this game he looked at times just uninterested as well.

All this talk about him having changed his game and becoming a facilitator, it’s just not true. Or maybe early in the season it looked like it was developing in that direction, but then reversed. Sure, he’s added 1,5 assists per 36, but he’s also added 1 turnover. His assist to turnover is 1,47 (an atrocious number for a “facilitator”), and it’s actually slightly worse than his ratio last year. And obviously he plays little to no defense.

I just don’t see a valuable role for him going forward, should get what can be got now.
