Better to do it now and get the assets rather than scramble at the deadline and not be able to do a bigger deal because you got outbid.

Initially, with what we got back, I thought we should’ve kept him and matched. Also, this assumes that Ted would not go into the luxury tax for Beal, which is an assumption that frightens me and don’t like.
Right now, it tentatively looks like I was wrong. Thank god.

I just love that the entire conversation/criticism around the trade stopped like five hours later.
Glad Hollinger went on the record with the take.

Outside of potential financial difficulties, I was never seemed to be as high on Rui like some of his fan favorites were. I like Kuzma way better and would rather they throw a bag at him and KP to TRY and build something. Hopefully they can draft better going forward to help the team on a cheaper deal.

Funny how Lakers stans and social media were all over this “Baby Kawhi” nonsense, but the more analytical talking heads think the Wiz made the right move. Fact is Rui was always grossly overrated by fans here.

I definitely agree. The only reason to maintain Rui would be for insurance in the case that Kuzma doesn’t resign.
But 3 seconds and a player that isn’t completely dead salary was worth it.

I have no issue with the trade, just macro view that we turned a top 10 pick into a reserve and three 2nds in exchange for a couple largely meaningless seasons of him playing here.

I don’t think folks are so upset about Rui being traded as it being a sign that we’re not going to trade our more valuable players for a rebuild attempt

yeah it was the best we were going to get but why is everybody looking at this trade in a vaccuum? every single “decent” decision made up to this point by this front office was damage control for multiple bad decisions. We’re not pissed because we got Nunn and seconds, we’re pissed because we got to a point where we have to say “…yeah at least we got smth for rui”

Not sure they weren’t getting anything else for Rui. Milwaukee wanted him and were more vocal about it. This comes off more as GM charity, shipping Rui to the best shopping area for Louis Vuitton after NYC.
