This OG talk has so much nuance to it:
– He’s a good player that would make the team better in the abstract
– He doesn’t really solve our biggest short term issue of bench scoring
– at the same time, he would hypothetically push Grimes to the bench, who has shown offensive flash potential
– he’s probably going to cost more than anyone is comfortable spending on him
– at the same time he’s slumping, so a good GM/FO would capitalize on that
– fans seem antsy for a trade, any trade
If we can get og without giving up our top 6 and our important picks I say it’s a win. Anything more then one unprotected pick is an overpay
I’d go as far as Fournier, Reddish, Quickley + the WAS & DET “first round picks” which won’t convert this year for OG, Porter (out for season) and Josh Jackson (salary filler). OG replaces Grimes in the first unit, Grimes replaces McBride while Rose replaces IQ in the second unit. I think people underestimate what Rose is still capable of. Fans will not like giving up IQ but this move allows us to upgrade from McBride to OG on both ends of the court. Grimes + Rose covers what you lose in IQ and this is worth the package IMO.

OG is a rare case where he’s available, he’s pretty good, he’s young, and he’s on an affordable contract. For teams that are trying to compete and think they’re a defensive wing away, he’s a key target. I want to be clear, the slump will not effect his price in any way. It’s going to be more than you’re likely comfortable with. Someone in this thread said he’s only worth a protected pick, which shows a totally gross misunderstanding of the trade market in 2023.
The biggest issue for this team is that there needs to be more pure talent and scoring punch in the starting lineup, because it gets real ugly when the offense breaks down. OG doesn’t really help in this regard, even if he’d be a fantastic addition here. I’d be trying to figure out what Chicago is doing, and see if we can get a reasonable deal going for Lavine.
Hate to say it,but OG would probably be best taking RJ’s spot in the starting lineup.
Brunson, Grimes, OG, Randle, Mitch would be pretty ideal, and OG would probably be very open to the idea of being more involved in the offense since RJ also usually played with the bench unit.
I like RJ, but he’s the best chip right now if we can somehow match salaries.
The Raptors have little leverage in this situation. The Knicks don’t need to give up many picks for a guy who will leave for nothing later. If their front office doesn’t see this and tries to pull a fast one on us, then talk to Phoenix because they don’t have many assets either that have value.
OGs health is concerning dude misses games every season and not just 4-5 but a lot.
Don’t pay for OG. Our season is on the shoulders of a heathy and consistent Brunson/Randle duo and he won’t change that. Our coach his proven that he will not do in-game adjustments and adding another piece will further clog up our roster. I’m all in on dumping pieces that are out of the rotation but we’ve been dangling a Cam/Fournier deal for months and there seems to be no takers. I’m fine with the roster we have knowing that our ceiling is 5th and the floor is the play in. A finish that is any lower than that means the FO/roster need to be shaken up
If we plan on keeping Randle for his entire contract, we have to make this move. OG is the best compliment to Randle and Mitch I can think of and his contract is amazing.
