There is def an argument to being sellers and then retool for next season. However, we need 100% buy in from Luka first. IMO keeping our pick, getting traceable assets, and being better next year is better than losing in the 2nd round this year. But maybe thats just me.

I’m not really sure why we would be sellers. It’s too late to tank. I’m all for trading 90% of the team, but I at least expect them to try and improve

Selling to what end though, some future player or deal that won’t materialize? I’m down for dealing a wing, but I want a quality player in return, either another ball-handler or an interior defender

So we possibly trade THJ, DFS, Bertāns and/or Bullock (our trade-able wings, Bertāns less so, but he only has 1.5 more years guaranteed).

We are currently 26-25 and 3 games out of 3rd/13th place. We shed one or two of the aforementioned players for salary cap space, and or draft assets, I can’t see us staying in the playoffs. If we lose any 2 of THJ, DFS or Bullock, and truly are sellers (i.e. we are giving up players for capspace/capital) we’d be play-in or lottery bound at that point, unless Luka goes god mode and drags us to a 5th/6th seed. I realize THJ is a meme and DFS has been underwhelming, but losing them for next to nothing would have an impact. Mainly because it would mean we are having to replicate their play by extending Dinwiddie’s minutes, playing Frank more or Bullock more.

I can’t imagine being sellers helps too much, given we don’t have our pick this year unless it is a top 10 pick, which would take monumental tanking to get there, something that isn’t going to happen with a healthy Luka.

I feel like selling at the deadline only helps New York, as we will get worse but not worse enough to keep our draft pick. Most common names I see floated around are DFS and THJ. Let’s say we trade both, best case scenario we bring back Caris LaVert and Vanderbilt. Those two aren’t moving the needle, and to be honest I don’t think Cleveland does THJ/LaVert straight up, so we wouldn’t really be sellers, we’d probably have to include someone else.

well, Shams said for a star. Thats exactly the polar opposite of sellers.

If you wanna trust a site called Action go ahead. LOL

I think we are in an interesting position where we have a lot of players with value, we just aren’t playing well. Imo DFS, Bullock, Dinwiddie, THJ, Green, Hardy, and Wood all have positive trade value, and none of them but Green seem like potential long term pieces of the core.

We are not going to improve this roster when THJ and Bertans is making 40m a year for next 2.

Either we accept that, suck it up and fuck them off by offering a 2nd rounder and retool.

They should absolutely scope the market and see what they can get in terms of first round picks. Maybe we take on a bad contract in addition to trading a guy to get an frp eg thj for drob + 1st. I’d like to see this team accumulate some frps to get young talent and have ammo for a trade.

Personally I think there is a way to be sellers, get better this year while also clearing some cap space for next year just due to how horribly inconsistent everybody but Luka Wood and Spencer have been.

Obligatory, Fischer and Trigg are hacks. They are right every once in a while because they spew out hundreds of random thoughts, but they are usually always wrong. Still don’t know why they aren’t banned at this point.

  11. GoTimeShowtime

Dorian and Frank for Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt. Call it in

  12. TheChosenOne311

Not clicking on a trash SI article, but I can guarantee you this headline is probably clickbait, and completely over exaggerated. Do they even cite a legit source for the rumor?

  13. Infidel447

Bound to happen: Mavs sell best wings for expiring to tank and Luka drags them into the playoffs anyway.

  14. whitefang0824

    Heard this one before.

Another Mavs offers their players then end up with nothing since their players are that bad to get other teams interest.

What stars are gettable for real? Let’s assume like ok we throw fucking everything we have at 1 guy. Who could we ACTUALLY get? Terry Rozier? I like him but you don’t need to go ‘all in’ for him and he is just Brunson 2.0, not a bad thing but like, why would you get him when you could have just had brunson… Zach Lavine? Attainable but he has injury concerns for sure. Myles Turner? Just signed an extension but actually is tradeable still, this could happen if you throw in Hield obviously and we know how Rick feels about most of the Mavs roster he helped develop. Ben Simmons? Lol. Twolves aren’t giving up Ant but I think Dlo and KAT could be gettable, that is worth looking at. Siakam? Worth it. Bradon Ingram? Worth it but likely not leaving. Trailblazers want to get rid of one of Grant, Simons or Dame? Hell yeah do this but not likely. Nothing else feels worth it or realistic at all idk.

Sure, sell off anybody but Luka, DFS, Kleber, Josh, Dinwiddie and Hardy 😀

It’s only important that Dallas doesn’t take on any bad contracts and won’t get worse this season. We shouldn’t annoy Luka and send a e.g. 12th pick to NY because Dallas won’t be bad or lucky enough to get a top 10 pick.

With that said there should be teams lining up to give the Mavs assets for e.g. McGee and Frank 😀

  17. ChipsAhoywithSunnyD

Nets: Recieve THJ, Bertans, Javale, and Bullock. Mavs: Recieve Seth Curry, Ben Simmons, and a 1st round pick.

Nets get off Ben Simmons contract, and we make room for more younger players and a FRP. Also the return of the better Curry.

  18. dmr196one

Anyone know anything about the forward they signed to a 10-day?

  19. RoyTarpleysGhost

*But there have been some indications that Dallas may look to shed salary instead of looking for upgrades.*

Will not be surprised. Avoiding any future luxury tax payments is objective #1 for Mavs ownership.

  20. SalesyMcSellerson

Nobody seems to be getting that if we tank for Wembanyana, then we don’t get to see Luka cook Wembanyana.

  21. If they replace 90% of the team it should be called mixing the rubiks cube

  22. Keep Green. He knows his role and plays it very well. All the other wings are very overrated by the fans here and should be on the table imo.

  23. TheBigIguana15

As long as Luka is on the team they won’t be “sellers.” They might do something like the Bertans/Dinwiddie move that seems like a mini-teardown but the aim and returns will always be motivated by competing in short term.

  24. Damedius33

    Why sellers now?

This should have been the decision during Luka’s rookie season, so you could build young talent around him.

You don’t do the opposite for 4 years and then decide to do it now.

However this is just a rumour and I wouldn’t put much into it. People will say anything nowadays just to get attention.
