Mike Jimenez Trys to Compare Jeremy Sochan to Willie Anderson

This is one of the poorest arguments I’ve ever seen trying to write off a young player.

Mike Jimenez of SA Sports Star has had some sort of issue with Jeremy Sochan day one and hasn’t let up. Not giving up despite the strides and obvious growth that Sochan has exhibited all season.

This time he tries to compare Sochan and his ultimate career path to Willie Anderson just because of the relative draft position. Add on that Jimenez just thinks every rookie is identical to each other to justify his position. It’s extremely weak, especially coming from a guy who calls himself a sports radio show host.

Ask any player. They go by age, not years in the league. Jimenez is talking out of his ass.

I asked if he was one of the fans pushing hard for the Spurs to draft Johnny Davis and he said he wanted AJ Griffin, who isn’t doing that much better than Sochan, anyways… It’s like you can’t win with his stance because he’ll find a problem for every solution.

    Wait, I’m confused–what’s Jimenez’s point? Because Sochan isn’t putting up Willie’s numbers he’s a bust?

Sochan is on the Rising Stars team, playing a different position than Willie, averaging 10 points and 5 rebounds a game, and logging 26 minutes a game as, at best, the 3rd or 4th option offensively.

Willie logged 34 minutes a game and was drafted to be the #1 scoring option for the team from the SG/SF position.

While we’re at it, let’s also compare basketballs to spinning globes and see what incredibly insightful conclusions we can draw about the world of round objects.

And FWIW, I’d also argue he’s having just as good of (if not a better season) than Chet Holmgren (obviously), Jabari Smith, Keegan Murray, Shaedon Sharpe, and Dyson Daniels…all drafted ahead of him.

He’s proving to be an incredibly valuable member of the team we can build around–potentially drafted at an incredible value–and how that’s not good enough for a 19 year-old kid who was seen as an incredibly gifted athlete with major questions offensively is beyond me.

damn people dedicate a lot of time to just being haters

  7. HarryBirdGetsBuckets

This is the kind of guy you just ignore, he’s trolling for exposure since he has no value to bring to the table as a “reporter” or “analyst” or whatever you wanna call him.

Who tf is this jimenez clown? I have never heard of him and I’ve been a Spurs fan since 1989.

  9. Thunderhorse74

This has to be troll bait, right? No one is that fucking stupid.

  10. pincheDavid

This is typical Spurs beat writers for the 4 letter networks. Trolling for clicks and shitting on the team. When things turn around watch this dudes tune change real quick.

One of the many trash accounts on spurs twitter, he talks out of his ass to hopefully grow his non existent fan base for his show, can’t expect much from a guy that labels himself as the Skip Bayless of San Antonio.

  12. TexasTango1

I hate Jimenez so much lmao. Instantly change the radio station when his show comes on

  13. Dont feed the trolls. Let those “hot takes” guys go fuck themselves.

Laziest analysts are ones that just look at surface-level circumstances and call it a parallel

Man don’t post about that fool here I hate seeing his dumb face pop up on twitter

Feels like this is just giving MJ the attention he wants

There is a significant correlation between lower draft age and higher prime PER rating. So yeah, nobody should compare young players without age difference in mind. Age is why I’m not worried about any of our picks this year. They’ve all got plenty of time to improve before their prime.

  18. Gabe-DaBabe

Yeah but if you watch the games Sochan does a lot of good little things

He feels like a bowling ball when hes headed to the basket. Pair that with his handle which is already better than just taking quick actions where the ball swings to him and he attacks a closeout/ open space. Hes bringing the ball up the floor in transition and isnt scared to go up strong amongst traffick. On top of all that he sees the court just as well as some of the better young 4s in the league like Scotty Barnes.

Defensively there just isnt that many guys in the league who can move laterally like Sochan and also be as big as him. Hes a pretty strong dude and will only get stronger.

He will most likely not be a star or maybe even all star calliber type but he has potential to be very good and contribute heavily to winning basketball.

Stop posting or engaging with Jimenez. If you give him attention, he’ll never go away. He WANTS you to shit on his takes

Saw a jimenez tweet and i know it is nonsense from the get go

I feel like this is Willie Anderson slander. Dude was a pretty good player for a really bad Spurs team until 50 got released from his Navy obligations in ’89. If he hadn’t gotten picked up in the expansion draft he would have solidified that SG spot better than the likes of Vinny Del Negro and Dell Demps, etc. Maybe he was never an all star but as a 2nd/3rd option behind David and Sean after we got Sean back from the Pistons, he would have had a more solid career and be more respected. Feels like the author of the article was just looking for a guy to slam. Sochan is so young and raw, he’s got a lot of great qualities and growing at a pace I’m not sure anyone expected.

If worst case scenario he winds up spending his time in the upswing of his career as a 2nd/3rd option behind Next Year’s Lottery Pick and (probably) another 2024 lotto pick, that’s still a hell of a spot.

Why does this clown and his friends get to have platforms to talk smack and be portrayed as “experts” when they literally have no clue what they are talking about? Come on San Antonio. We surely have better to offer then homeless man’s Skip Bayless.

Mike Jimenez is the kind of guy that got angry at the Spurs during the Primo mess because “they should’ve known he was like this before drafting him” and wasting a lottery pick on him. The “PATFO is ruining the team and can’t do anything right” kind of guy.
