26:27-the end: why Luka performs better than Harden.

TLDR: Luka’s shot variety, and hence unpredictability, has helped him achieve splendid playoff success, and would almost certainly lead to multiple NBA championships.

06:57-08:59: why NBA championship teams must have an excellent defensive frontcourt.

TLDR: Every single champion in recent NBA history has had a top-tier defensive frontcourt: Draymond and Kevon Looney (2022 Warriors); Brook Lopez and Giannis (2021 Bucks); AD and Lebron (2020 Lakers); Serge Ibaka, Kawhi, and Marc Gasol (2019 Raptors); Draymond and KD (2018 & 2017 Warriors); Lebron when he was committed to defense (2016 Cavaliers); Draymond (2015 Warriors); Tim Duncan and Kawhi (2014 Spurs); Lebron and Chris Bosh (2013 & 2012 Heats); Tyson Chandler (2011 Mavericks), etc.

23:00-25:03: why the addition of Myles Turner could turn the Portland Trailblazers into a serious championship contender. (In my opinion, Jason Timpf’s analysis of the Trailblazers, to a considerable extent, applies to the Mavericks as well.)

TLDR: Except in the frontcourt, Portland’s team features championship caliber players: Damian Lillard, an offensive superstar; Anfernee Simons, a backup shot creator; Jerami Grant, a good defensive wing who can also creates shots for himself; Gary Payton II, an elite perimeter defender; Josh Hart, a good defensive wing. With the defensive presence of Myles Turner, the Trailblazers could flourish into a serious contender.

As much as I consider the Mavericks insufficient in talent depth, I think they are closer to a championship contender than the regnant sentiment on this sub suggests. The makeup of the Mavs is similar to that of the Trailblazers in some ways: Luka is the best offensive player in the league; Dinwiddie is a secondary shot creator who, despite inconsistency alongside Luka, can give a 30 piece with 5+ assists without Luka; C. Wood is an athletic, long wing who can create shots for himself and offer limited help in rim protection; DFS is a great defensive wing despite the inconsistent shooting; Josh Green is a great hustle player with ever-improving defense and shooting; Maxi when healthy is a great defensive wing that can help on rim protection. In my opinion, just as the Trailblazers, the addition of Myles Turner could nudge the Mavs to the ranks of serious contenders, especially with how wide open the west is this season.

P.S. I’m no trade or cap space expert, so correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Turner remains trade-eligible despite the recent extension because the extension was under three years and the salary raises were under five percent. Plus, in my opinion, were the Mavs to acquire Turner, his two and a half year 58.1 million deal would be the second most valuable contract on the Mavs, only behind Luka’s.

  1. I mean ofc people say they have a similar style in the way the team operates but not actually dive deep into it. Lukas bag is way bigger than Harden ever had. Way more versatile. He is a huge whiner but he doesnt foul bait like Harden ever did.
