Why Players Will Avoid The Wizards

Why Players Will Avoid The Wizards

As an NBA fan, I can’t help but look at the Washington Wizards and ask myself, ‘What the hell are they doing?

Some NBA franchises prefer to comfort the anxiety of their fans with rebuilding plans. They’ll tank games and hoard high draft picks, just as the Philadelphia 76ers did during the process days. Or they’ll make painful decisions and trade away superstars while embracing a youth movement, as the Oklahoma City Thunder is doing now.

This characteristic way of running a franchise, which provides a sense of stability for a fan base and even a vision for the future, might be for other cities. But not Washington.

  1. Sure the wizards aren’t contenders. But most teams in the nba right now who aren’t contenders think they are. Wizards are no less contenders as of late than knicks, blazers, pelicans, hawks, suns, etc. so many teams in the same boat as wizards but they are actually a star point guard away from contention.

  2. You called Troy Brown Jr “Tony”. Miss pronounced Deni’s last name. And called the Wizards the Warriors lol.

  3. Some fair points for sure. But they were a perennial playoff team his first few years in the league back around 2013-2016 I think. But of course John wall helped. But the problem was, having 2 big stars in the backcourt that didn’t play well together was a problem, they decided to stick with Beal and ship off Wall, likely for financial reasons mostly. Beal is a GREAT player, but he is not one of THE greats that can carry a team himself. For a while, he tried to be “the man” and would take offense to bringing in another big star. But over the last 4-5 years, he has matured and plays MUCH better in team ball. He doesn’t hog it as much, isnt worried about a scoring title or personal awards anymore, and is more happy playing on a good team and sharing the ball in pursuit of team success. He is playing very well with Kuzma and Porzingis, and they are shaping up to be a strong “Big 3” for the wizards.

As far as contenders, they are on a hot streak, 6 in a row during a western road trip, and are now in the playoff mix…IF they can keep this momentum after the break. We will see. But Beal is a smooth operator on the floor, and CAN be a clutch difference maker, especially now that he has help, and is willing to share the ball so willingly. I think they’ll be in great shape if they can resign Kuzma.

  4. This is a terrible take. A clickbait video with a bunch of misinformation hahaha. Like others stated below, you called Troy Brown Jr, "Tony", and the Wizards the Warriors. You don't even have the bandwidth do enough research to pronounce names correctly. This is a team you ignore, so why talk out of your ass about them? For views, I'm sure, right? You have other teams who fall short, like the Knicks, for example, who always escape the criticism but got all this bullshit to say about the Wizards.

The Wizards issues aren't about not being able to build around their stars cause they have done that. The problems are always injuries to impact players at the wrong times. Both Gilbert and John had good teams around them, but they fell short because Gilbert and John both had career-impacting injuries, so wtf are you talking about. People say they can't develop players, but when Kelly Oubre, Thomas Bryant, Rui Hachimura, etc., get traded, it's "omg, how could they let them go?" The Wizards were in the playoffs for years, just in 2020 with Russ and Beal, and Beal almost got the scoring title that year if he didn't get injured. In the playoffs, the Wizards lost against the Hawks cause John Wall broke his hand. 16-17 Wizards were one game away from the ECF, but John Wall got hurt. If that team runs it back with a healthy John Wall, who was a 5x perennial All-Star before he got hurt, and Bradley Beal, who became a 3x All-Star, what do you think would happen to that team? At one point, they were arguably the best backcourt in the NBA next to Steph, Klay, Dame, and McCollum. That's who they were before the injuries and setbacks.

Rui has always been surrounded by vets from John, Beal, Russ, Kuz, KP, etc. His game did not evolve the way they wanted it to. They wanted him to play like Kuzma is now. They want to keep Kuzma, so they traded Rui and are rolling with Deni Avdija. The organization has a clear vision and direction, whether you agree with it or not. They've repeated time and time that they want to win with Beal. The same way Portland intends to win with Dame. They believe they can do it and could have succeeded in the past if not for unfortunate injuries. They've had injuries again this season from Beal, Delon Wright, and Rui (who was in and out of the lineup his whole career cause he couldn't stay healthy or consistent). Now that the entire team is together, they are on 6 games winning streak. You dropped this video in the middle of a 6 game-winning streak.

Wizards fans love this team even though the media never gives them credit or respect when they play well or speak the truth about how injuries ruined the Gilbert Arenas (and guns) and John Wall eras. They get frustrated when players get injured, and it's another disappointing season. Kristaps Porzingis has been healthy all season btw, so change the narrative on him as well. But this team never gets blown out. They come up short and lose games they should win if they had whoever was injured and out of the lineup. Trading everyone and "tanking" for some unicorn player that's so great that they won't get hurt and be a perennial all-star is not easy. The Sixers are proof of that, go back and look at all of the failed lottery picks they couldn't develop, players who became stars on other teams, and iterations of their roster. They've been shit for a very long time and just now got a good team, and Joel Embiid cant stay healthy when it matters. They could do it this year, it would make all the tanking and players worth it, but luck plays a prominent role in life. Stop disrespecting and do some actual research instead of regurgitating NBA Twitter bullshit. All it takes is a season without major injuries, and you eat crow and make a video about how the Wizards might have something (or not, cause they didn't get respect when they had success either). Have a great day!

  5. To blame 1 player you clearly don’t watch our games. We lost most of our games on coaching alone. Bad lineups and not holding players accountable plus we wasn’t healthy. When the whole team suits up the wizards have a winning record. Do more HW before putting out a shitty vid

  6. Man I never dislike videos, but I heard so many bulshit in this one, try to make research about the team.

  7. If you're gonna make a video about a team's situation, it would be best not to stick to ESPN talking points and actually invest the time to understand what's going on. At least we get to see some Wizards highlight clips though.

  8. Bruh…stop copying other podcasts. We aint doing no worse than the Lakers but aint nobody saying s***…Were doing no worse than half of the league…At least we can say we got a title no matter when it happened…Cause many teams cant even say that.
