It's a scary trade to me not only because of the expiring contract, but he suddenly requested a trade after he couldn't come to terms with the Nets on an extension. Yeah, he's Kanye-like, but what if he comes to Dallas and does like most athletes that play for the Mavs and the Cowboys. They retire and still end up living here regardless of where they're from originally. He may finally find a home here. Plus, if he becomes a free agent with the Mavs, we'll be able to pay him more than any other team as an unrestricted free agent. Restricted free agents can sign an offer sheet like Ayton did with Indiana, but Phoenix matched it, which forced him to stay on a team he clearly want tobe on anymore. Cuban will pay the luxury tax to keep Luka and have a dynasty. We're gonna need Doe Doe in the locker room if we get Kyrie. 🤭 And remember, Dallas was one of the teams on his list last year. He may start to mature like Kobe and A.I. did and finally get his mind right. Maybe he's listening to Stephen A as well. If Luka approves I say do it before we end up on a Cowboys drought. F' it bro.

If the Nets want to remain competitive after this trade, I think the Mavs actually do have a really decent shot at landing Kyrie. If this is just the first piece of a blowup and they want young talent/multiple firsts, the Mavs have zero chance at landing him. The Mavs could offer THJ, Wood, & 1st. About the biggest competitor would be the Lakers, and what can they offer? Westbrook & two firsts? Again if they're wanting picks and young players, other teams have better options. THJ & Wood is a better return than Westbrook imo. The rushed deadline and the fact that off-the-court-drama has severely weakened Kyrie's stock, the Mavs may actually be able to pull it off. If the Mavs can pull off this trade, they would still have two picks this summer to work with. OR could they use a 1st to trade Powell to the Spurs for Poeltl before the deadline?
Luka, Kryie, & Dinwiddie would take ALL of the guard minutes. Bullock & Green splitting the SF role. DFS starts at PF. Poeltl starts at C. Kleber plays mins at both PF & C. Bertans with a few mins off the bench for 3P shooting and McGee in worst case scenarios… I like their chances. If they don't trade for Poeltl and keep Powell, they're still going to need a piece at center to win a championship imo. Daniel Gafford maybe? Richaun Holmes? Mo Bamba? Getting Kyrie solves one of their biggest weaknesses though, and if they're able to keep Josh Green & DFS… they just need a center.

I absolutely don't agree. The Nets aren't going to get much at all for him so you wouldn't need to trade your 3 best trade assets besides Luka. Also, why do you value Wood so much and Josh so little. Teams on't really want Wood that much and Josh is no question right there with Doe as your best trade assets.

If hypothetically Luka demands a trade next season what teams can send a package to the Mavericks that they accept and Luka ends up on a team that can contend?
Only way I can see see Luka getting traded to a contender is if its just swapping 2 superstars, like Luka for Tatum and the Celtics are better but I think thats still not enough for Mavs and Celtics would also say no.
Outside that you need to get atleast a better trade then the Golbert trade so 4 starter level players and 4 first round picks. That would mean Mavs have 8 starter level players and 8 tradeable first round picks. If you dont get that you just do what the nets did with KD and keep him. Luka is under contract until the 2027-28 season where he has a player option.
Last time before KD that a superstar demanded a trade was AD. That turned out pretty well for the Pelicans.

Jordan won his first chip in his 7th season at 28. Lebron stayed in Cleveland for 7 season before winning his first chip in his 9th season at 27. Luka is 23 and in his 5th… I don't know when players got so impatient that they want to win earlier in their career and younger then the GOAT
If luka wants to leave the let him go, we want loyal players, it would totally suck but its what the players these days do, they leave and join teams that are better, the NBA in the 90's players didn't rely on super teams that wanted to win and play against other great players now with them against zero competition.
If they do a trade its almost certainly going to involve either Dinwiddie or Dorian, nets want both for Kyrie, I would rather send Dinwiddie, Wood and THJ for Kyrie and Patty Mills or Seth Curry.
The fact that Wood has not extended means either Mavs don't want him or he wants more then they want to offer so he will get traded before the deadline so they don't lose him in the offseason for nothing. Spencer all of a sudden out for 'injury recovery' which makes me think he is on the block too.

Nets don't want picks. People in comments need to think does this make the Nets better? and then think if you would trade them back in the offseason. If the answer is no to either of those questions then the Nets say no. THJ and Bertans for Kyrie is about as likely as Luka for Joe Harris and Royce O'Neal
